Hostelz.com's Review
At first glance, Mondo Taitu looks like a rundown building, but most of the buildings in Bocas are similar. The hostel is slightly dusty, but this adds to the character of the hostel.

The Location

Mondo Taitu is located just off the end of the main drag in Isla Colon, the most popular of the islands in the archipelago. With the town being so small, it's a short, five-minute walk to the main street, which is almost exclusively tourist-oriented with plenty of shops, markets, and restaurants. The airport is only a ten-minute walk from the hostel and buses to parts of the island leave from the main square.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are spacious and the hostel provides clean bed linen. The hostel has easonably comfortable mattresses on approximately forty beds in total in dorms of varying size. Bathrooms on the ground floor are shared and the walls covered in graffiti, which makes for interesting reading. The rooms have security lockers for valuables but you need your own lock.

Common Spaces

The reception area doubles as a common room with a large table. There is a laptop that guests can use or free Wi-Fi if you have your own device. There is a very small book exchange. There are folders with more information on tours, attractions, and surf breaks in the common area. The kitchen could be improved, but there is still enough equipment to make a meal if you plan in advance. A free pancake and banana breakfast is available each day until midday. The hostel bar is lively and during happy hour each evening there are half-price beers. Following happy hour there is cocktail hour where there are discounted cocktails. Many travelers from other hostels and some locals come to the bar during these times.

The reception staff are friendly and will give you a tour and some local information on arrival. Staff speak Spanish and English, but largely English to non-perfect-speaking Spanish foreigners, which is the only downside to this hostel. The hostel is secure and guests are given a key to the door of the rooms. The main door is locked nightly at 2 a.m.

There is a small garden area with chairs and benches and a balcony area, which are perfect for having a few drinks or relaxing. There is are bicycles available for free hire although some had punctures while we stayed.

Summary

This hostel is a super place to stay. Bookings are recommended in advance, especially during busy periods. In our opinion, and one we share with others, this is one of the best hostels we've stayed at.
