The Hostelz.com Review
HI - Moscow - HM Hostel Moscow is a lovely little hostel in what appears to be an apartment block in a lively part of Moscow. HM Hostel has all the amenities of home, and staying here is more like staying in a shared apartment than in a hostel.
The Location
HM Hostel's location is excellent, as it is only a short walk from two major metro stops, and is about a fifteen-minute walk away from a third. It is possible to walk to both Church of Christ our Saviour and the pedestrianized Arbat, where there are a number of cafes and restaurants. The neighbourhood is busy at all times of the day and night and feels fairly safe. There is a supermarket close to one of the metro stops, and there is a small shopping area at another, selling all manner of goods.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorm rooms are relatively spacious and clean, and the hostel offers rooms with six, seven, or ten beds, with both single-sex and mixed options. There are no in-room lockers, but it is possible to have luggage locked in a storage room behind the reception desk. The bathrooms are spotless, and are the nicest we have ever seen in a hostel. Depending on the time of day, a queue can form for showers, but it is usually not a serious problem. The bathroom with the shower is gigantic, and there is plenty of room for soap and shampoo, as well as ample space to hang clothes.
Common Spaces
The common spaces are kept immaculate, and there is a free computer with internet for guests' use. There are comfortable, modern couches, and a television and DVD player for guests. The kitchen is quite large, and well-stocked with utensils, as well as free coffee and tea. There is also a book shelf where guests can take or leave books. The hostel isn't too noisy, but it is fun and full of social people who are willing to talk and share their travel experiences.
Summary
The bathrooms and kitchen are stunning in both their size and modernity. The hostel is well-located and secure, as everyone entering the building has to enter a security code at the main entrance. HM Hostel provides almost anything a weary traveler could look for, and is located in a great neighbourhood.

A lovely hostel I was there for only one night, but I really liked it. Although, it doesn't have the "aura" of a hostel, it's pretty small and looks like an apartment (which is, actually, good, because everything is very clean and brand new). The rooms are really nice (you can see it in the pictures, we were in the blue one). The place is quiet. It's located near the centre although if you are visiting Moscow for the first time it might be confusing. The little red sign HM is easy to miss and the entrance looks a bit scary, but the place is very secure. The staff is the reason this hostel didn't get five stars. They are friendly, but they seem to be inexperienced and unorganized. Ask for the receipt when you pay! The price is too high for a hostel, but then again, that's Moscow! — jeanine (2008-09-25)
