friendly helpful staff, comfortable bed and common area with cosy sofas and balcony areas in the sun. They had reasonable wifi for $10 per 14hours! big clean kitchen, clean bathroom and cheap laundry services, only $2 to wash and $2 to dry a load.

More personable than most YHA properties Stayed in a private double room with en-suite in May 2007. The room was clean and comfortable, good value for budget travelers. Common spaces were pretty ordinary. It is an easy five- to eight-minute walk to the hot springs and shops, and there is ample parking. The owners/managers were friendly and available to help. This was certainly the most personable (and smallest) YHA property we stayed at in New Zealand. — Ian , USA (2007-05-28)
This hostel is on the very low end of average. The furniture in the lounge is shabby, the kitchen was dirty, ill-equipped, and poorly arranged. The tables are to small and there are only two sinks for everyone to do their washing in. There are cheaper, nicer options to be had in Hanmer Springs. — sarah von , USA (2007-04-19)
