The Location
HI - Charlottetown - Backpackers Inn Hostel is the completely ideal hostel. Reasonably priced and located right on the edge of downtown Charlottetown and within walking distance of everything, it is a great place to use as a base for exploring the island. Parking is not really a problem (though it says it's not legal on the streets -- everyone does it anyway). Day trips to other points on the island are easy, then come back here for a few drinks.
Rooms and Bathrooms
It is a charming, cozy, and clean house renovated into a hostel with a number of rooms supporting three bunk beds each. The rooms are clean and the bathrooms have private shower stalls. There is also a fully equipped kitchen at everyone's disposal. Levi and Katie (the owners) are generally cooking up a storm in the evening. In the morning there is a free basic but decent breakfast.
Common Spaces
The hostel includes a games room with Levi's extensive record collection, darts, and pool table, which is actually separate from the hostel itself (in the renovated garage) so noise for people sleeping is no hassle. A common room with internet (for which they charge a small price), and a large, flat screen television along with a good sized library of DVDs and VHS movies and a book exchange is on the main floor of the house.
Summary
Levi and Katie are two well rounded, well traveled, and easygoing people. Any questions, concerns, or problems are their number one priority. This place is lots of fun and totally casual. Do yourself a favor and stay at this place. It's Canada's birthplace and just plain fun.
