The Hostelz.com Review
Sleepzone - The Burren is a part of the Sleepzone chain of hostels in Ireland. It is well maintained and very suited for large groups. It can be a bit overwhelming for individual travelers when the place is full or when it comes to meal times. It is a clean hostel.
The Location
Lisdoonvarna is located about seven miles (fourteen kilometers) from the Cliffs of Moher. There are buses that run into this town many times during the day and drop off a short walking distance from the hostel. It is located in town, putting hostelers just a two-minute walk from the pubs and live music every night. This is the town that hosts a matchmaking festival each fall, so keep this in mind when booking late in the year.
Rooms and Bathrooms
All rooms -- including dorms -- are en-suite, which makes finding the bathroom in the night a bit easier. Dorms are spacious and have storage space under the bunks, but there are no lockers in the hostel. Hairdryers are in each room. Bunks are made of metal but move and shake very easily. Pillows are a bit flat but the covers are warm and clean. Bathrooms are large with bathtubs and showers.
Common Spaces
There is a TV room with a few (but good) movies to choose from, but not many seats for watching. Books, maps, and hiking guides are provided. Weekends will see this place full, especially during the summer. The bar area, which serves no alcohol, has lots of tables for games and laptops and a pool table. It is a good place to meet people and mingle. There is also a side room which can be used for conferences for large groups. The kitchen is a bit awkward, since it is split into two parts separated by a hall. A walk-in refrigerator and pantry make it easy to find space, even when the hostel is full. Free coffee and tea are provided in the morning and all throughout the day, except when the kitchen closes for cleaning.
Summary
Keys are given to each adult. There is free Wi-Fi and one computer for those without a laptop. Towels are available for a fee as well as laundry service.
