Hostelz.com Guest Reviews

Don't do it. Management relied on one sole staff member who was insane. She was friendly one minute, and them the next she was crazy. Once she did not want some of the guests hanging out to celebrate a guests birthday and reported us to management saying we trash the place, and stay up all night -- wrong. the rules the next day were no drinking after 11 p.m., and can only drink on first floor. No parties were allowed, and no friends were allowed to visit. Management put itself in a convenient spot by shifting the blame on any three of the management members, so it is hard to get any issues resolved. too tiny place for too many people. the people are cool sometimes, but no one is really there to make friends. — nolofstel , USA (2009-05-16)
The Place Is Horrible I stayed at this hostel for two months. It was horrible! It's in the middle of the worst neighborhood in Brooklyn. Nothing to do, no place to eat, no bars, no restaurants, no stores -- nothing. There is only one subway nearby, and it's the worst in the entire NYC transit system -- on weekends it's out of service usually, and if you go out after midnight, forget about it -- you're spending three or four hours getting home. The worst part, a taxi from any normal neighborhood back here is always too expensive. The rooms are small, and they put too many beds in each room to increase profits, which leave little space for any of your things, let alone walking around in the room. Not just that, the place is always dirty, I saw a couple of mice inside when i was there. The management clueless, they started charging guests $25 on their credit card for not washing dishes, for being too loud after midnight, or for having guests stay too long. Plus, they never have enough employees because they can't retain good staff. Do not stay here! Loftstel is the worst. — Loftstel Booker , Australia (2009-03-24)
Disorganized and uncomfortable I am in the middle of a four-month internship in New York, and I found this place when looking for temporary housing. At first I thought it was a pretty cool place, but it gradually started to become uncomfortable for me. One troubling point I had was with some of the staff. I am not comfortable drinking (I'm underage and I've never enjoyed it anyway), and there were one or two who, every week, tried to get me to drink with them (almost to the point of persistence). Management is not much better. The administrative changes in the past couple of weeks do not appear to have been clearly communicated clearly to the staff, much less to the guests that they affect. I feel that I have been kept out of the loop when it comes to a lot of important notices, and it seems that you have to be at the right place at the right time to know anything about what's going on. I would recommend this place to any student whose priority is to party (as I type this, I can hear the music clearly from upstairs), but not by any means to anybody else. — Joe Collins , Canada (2008-03-17)
i stayed here in february and was not impressed. staff members were not particularly helpful and there were no clean towels for all three days i was there (i had called ahead to ask if they had any, was told that they did, and therefore did not bring one). i slept without a blanket and pillow for two of the nights because there were none left, despite having several dozen empty beds. the entire operation was under construction but the staff made themselves scarce and it was not clear who was even running the place (which wouldn't have been an issue except that it was such a mess). i have stayed at low-budget hostels before in N.Y. and the former Soviet Union without any problems but this is by far the worst i've been to. — sasha , united states (2007-04-20)
