The Hostelz.com Review
The scent of cinnamon hits you once you enter Cinnamon Hostel. It's in a pretty good location -- near the town square -- although getting there without a suitably detailed map will prove difficult with construction work going on everywhere. If you're walking from the main train station, head towards the big mall Galleria Dominikanski. Once there, head northwest and you'll see a small cathedral and the street Kazmierza Wielkiego, where the hostel is located. Getting to the town square takes about seven minutes' walk once you get your bearings right. The hostel is located in a compound -- you should see a guard hanging around the main gate.

Since it wasn't tourist season, we had the eight-bed dorm to ourselves during our early April stay. Each dorm or room is named after a spice or a scent and with cheery walls to boot. The room is big but doesn't have much of a view -- again, with construction work everywhere. Bunk beds are really comfortable, with bright sheets and duvet. Cheery is the word.

The lounge has one computer with quick internet connection speed, a dining table, chairs, and sofas. There are speakers connected to the computer, but sadly no television. If someone is using the computer, you are stuck with just sitting in a lounge trying to read under lounge lighting. The kitchen is a small room but well equipped. There's a washing machine in the kitchen -- we have no idea if it works, although we were assured we could do our laundry. Free breakfast is the usual -- bread, butter, jams, and corn cereal. Toilets are very clean -- a big plus. The cleaners seem to come every day. Overall, if you're not fussy about atmosphere, want a good bed to sleep in, with a good location, this would be a great place.

I turned up at Cinnamon at 9:30 p.m. without a reservation. But, being April, the place was pretty quiet. I was in Basil, an eight-bed dorm. The room isn't cramped but you are in bunks. The kitchen was good enough. Breakfast was standard Polish hostel fair, cheap corn flakes, bread (four Polish hostels I've stayed in so far and only one has had a toaster -- must be a Polish thing), jams, and butter. The common room is big and I spent a fair amount of time spread out on one of the couches reading a book. The computer is good and is often streaming internet radio which is good. Bathrooms are decent. Location is good. A good, modern-style hostel with friendly staff.
