The Hostelz.com Review
Jaeger's Hostel in Munich has a rustic feel when you walk in the door. The floor and furniture are dark wood color with nice, wide sofa seats and an internet café lining the far wall.

The included breakfast is a simple toast with jam and butter, tea, or coffee -- enough of a tuck to get you to a café for a real breakfast. This involves walking around the corner since the location of the hostel is about five minutes across the street from Hautbanhoff (Central) Station and easy to find as long as you exit the correct side of the station. Jaeger's also provides a coupon for one free drink at their adjacent bar, which has nice, big tables and a TV on the far wall.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Strangely, Jaeger's requests that you return the key to the front desk each time you leave the building so "no one gets locked out." Not only is this hostel the single one that we find to still use actual keys instead of card keys and an electronic system, there is only one key for the entire room! The key situation ended up being most unfortunate because one person in the four-person room was not back by the time we were ready to sleep. This means that we had to leave the door unlocked for him since we were in the room and the dead bolt can only be turned with the single key available. Not only are the other room occupants strangers, we had to sleep with the door unlocked! Despite the area being quite safe, this seems to be unnecessary. The receptionist says management is working on getting a card key system, but who knows how long or when that will be implemented!

An amenity of convenience is the elevator, which helps immensely if traveling with a roller or hand-carried luggage. The bathrooms are separate from the shower stalls and are clean with nice hot water free of charge. On our floor, the facilities are in the hallway, but other travelers have the bath facilities in the middle of their room! There are tall skinny lockers for each bed, which works if your luggage is skinny enough to fit. The large windows in the room are lovely during the day, but bring an eye shade if you need darkness to sleep. The curtains are so thin that the street lights shine right into the room.

Common Spaces

The entire first floor, from the reception to the bar, is quite conducive to meeting other travelers, mostly young adults. We find the environment very comfortable and not too smoky at all.

Summary

While Jaeger's was a great place for one one night, the key situation and the thin curtains were enough to make me find somewhere else to stay. The same street is lined with other hostels, and if travel takes us to wonderful Munich again, we will be choosing an alternative location.

I very much enjoyed my stay at Jaeger's. The location was excellent, the staff was nice, and the room was very clean, as well as the bathroom. The free breakfast in the morning was absolutely excellent, and at good times too. I would stay there again or recommend it to a friend in a second.

Not that clean and the 40-person room can be a bit noisy. My worst night was here.

This place was in a decent location - easy walking distance to the train station. The staff were generally friendly and helpful, but I did have a pair of sandals stolen, I think by the cleaning staff. There was also a huge amount of construction going on in the inside of the hostel. This made for very loud early mornings.

I stayed there for a few days, and I must tell it was not what I imagined before. The showers in the rooms were not very clean and comfortable, and the sheets were dirty. Anyway, if you want to save money it is not a bad place to stay. You just have to ask them to change the linen before you can sleep there. I had a good time there though.

We found the description of the dorms to be a bit misleading. Rather than a ten-bed dorm we were actually in a large room that contained 40 beds split into four lots of ten. This made for a lot of noise from lockers and showers virtually round the clock. The location of the hostel was great and the staff were great help during a medical crisis. Also, thanks to "English" Steve. Using the buffet to make your sandwiches for lunch proves to be a good value for money!

We had a good few days in Munich at this hostel. It was very basic, but we did have a clean room and the cleaning lady was really sweet. The walls are paper thin, but TVs in the rooms provided entertainment before bed. CNN OVERLOAD!! I think if you don't spend much time in the hostel, this place is perfect.

I'm sure that if I had not stayed in the dorms, I would have had a much better time. The location was awesome--right across the street from the main station. It is fairly cheap, and internet is not far. The staff were nice. The place is very clean. The common room was nice. I didn't have the breakfast 'cause I had to leave early the next morning. Bring a lock.

This place was great! The staff were really friendly, the rooms clean, the showers good, and the location--awesome! They even had a TV and a movie library, if one just wanted to chill. I met a lot of great people here and couldn't argue at all with the location. Highly recommended.

I liked it overall. It has a very convenient location. It was clean enough and the staff were nice, if a bit odd. The lockers were annoying, but if you had a metal lock they were fine.

Gross. The staff are the best part about this place. The room was kind of disgusting, and the shower in the room was even worse.

Bring your own lock. A small backpack lock won't work with the stupid lock system they have. Hard to explain, but you need a big enough lock to prevent the door from opening, but small enough to fit through the hole. Luckily for you, they'll sell you a lock that does work for 3 euro. The bathrooms were not that clean. The showers were a joke.

Stayed there one night due to Euro Youth Hostel being booked -- one night was enough. The beds have no linens (you must have your own), the blanket that was provided had not been washed (A LOT of human head hairs on it as well as the pillow) and you have to have your own lock or buy one from them (beware if you do this -- the key to my lock that I bought also opened my 3 other neighbors locks that they also bought from them). The staff were friendly, but not clean enough for me to recommend.

I did not get a room at the youth hostel, so I walked five steps and entered Jaegers and got a bed for three nights. The staff--a nice lady called Clare--was very, very helpful. The hostel was neat and clean and close to the train station and the major sites, such as Marienplatz. It cost 23 euros per night. Yup, there is no Internet, but there is a good atmosphere, and the rooms are clean. I met a lot of nice people, and took Mike's Bike tours around Munich city. I rode a bicycle after a long time, and it was the best part of my trip. Really great!!

This place is friendly and clean. It had comfortable beds, but the showers were a little small. My only complaint is that, contrary to the web site (their own site), there is no Internet access, which is only a tiny problem seeing as there're a few Internet cafes nearby. And they only hold your bags if you have your own lock.
