HI - Davidson - Auberge Esprit Hostel

The company offer tons of adventure activities (such as canoeing, rafting, climbing, and cycling) -- all of which you can sign up for right here in the hostel. You'll be taken directly from the hostel to the activity of your choice and back again after a fun and exciting day. However, If you fancy a quieter stay, there's still plenty of stuff to do -- you can go for a hike, chill out on the vast wooden deck, or take advantage of the free canoe hire.

The Location

You will be hard pressed to find a hostel in a more stunning, beautiful, and peaceful location, situated near Fort Coulonge in a village in the Pontiac Regional County Municipality. A vehicle of some sort is pretty essential to reach this little paradise.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Little cabins surrounding the main bulk of the hostel each contain three clean and cozy dorm rooms consisting of eight beds. However, there is only one shower and toilet cubicle per cabin, so naturally it is rarely free in the morning. There are plenty of clean communal showers located in the main building but you have to venture outside to reach them. Each cabin comes equipped with a nice clean kitchen and outside decking. It's very sociable in the cabin with the other hostelers -- people here are generally outgoing and up for adventure.

Common Spaces

The bar is large and often very busy. The locals often stop by to enjoy the all-you-can-eat pizza evenings outside on the deck, where the atmosphere is fun and the sunsets are beautiful. The inside dining area is also huge to cater for the regular influx of big groups.

Summary

Most people here appear to be in a preformed group, so lone travelers may find it difficult to make friends. The hostel runs so many communal meals/bar nights, you won't be lost for evening activities. In addition, the food is amazing -- those with hollow legs will be pleased with the as-much-as-you-can-eat ethic. However travelers on a budget may find the meals a little pricey. Auberge Espirit ticks every box -- it's clean, with great facilities, set in a stunning location with a lively bar scene, and food to die for. It would be difficult to improve on this fantastic hostel.
