Nice hostel. This was a nice hostel with a quaint character and cute dog. It even had tea in the rooms (unlike any other hostels we stayed in). The communal areas were cold (in January) but this seemed to be the case in most hostels we stayed in. The taxi driver from the airport struggled to find it. (It's about 5 mins walk from one of the pagodas. On the opposite side of the main road to the lake. It's not visible from the main road.) It's close to the lake and about 20/30 mins walk along the side of the lake to restaurants. There's an easy to use bus though. — Saly , England (2012-05-10)

Good, but not as good as before I recommend the hostel, but not the Mingtown cafe attached. Stayed here a few years back, before it was expanded and before the new Mingtown Cafe was opened. It was more warm and friendly then than it is now. Not so good now, though the accommodation is clean and comfortable, the new cafe is really disappointing. The prices are high -- as high as anywhere else in this expensive town, and the quality is poor and the portions meagre. The service is also very slow. Breakfast included fried egg and bacon -- the fried eggs were cold. Said it included butter but got some sort of artificial butter substitute. Said it included jam, but it never arrived. Finally the waitress spilled dirty cutlery over us when clearing the table. — Chris , British (2010-10-24)

Cozy and relaxing hostel This is a reconstruction old building. I stayed in a single room for one night and a 8 bed dorm room en-suite for one night. Both of them have air-conditioned and spacious. The common room is very cozy and itself has many comfy couch. The travelers can watch movie, talking with other travelers. It is nearby West Lake and you can walk about 5 mins to 10 mins along the West Lake for a good coffee shop, like costa. I would only concern about the wet and slippy toilet floor inside the room. This is a really good value of the dorm bed for US$5. — patkam , hong kong (2010-05-12)

Nice hostel in a lovely green city The hostel was a nice midpoint between the touristy area of the east side of the lake and the sites on the west and south sides.
Great laundry service (with dryer), okay breakfast, English speaking staff, super comfy living room area, although crowded as everyone gathers here and it is in the lobby. Nice outside sitting area.
Easy to grab a cab to the touristy area and super cheap, so location is perfect. Hangzhou was such a relief after the construction and steel of Shanghai. Super lush green environment around the hostel and lake. — Rubia , American (2009-08-23)

Difficult to get a single room I've booked a single room in a month advance for one night but I would like to stay one more night. A week later I came back to book another night. It's full. The price for one room is RMB200 and they do not allow to get HI card so there is no discount given. The room is very basic and clean but the toilet is old and worn off. There is very common observations in toilet in china hostel that they do not maintained well and up to acceptable standard. — patkam , HongKong (2009-06-11)

Very kind, peaceful, and clean The foods are delicious! The bus station is near here. Specially the officers make us happy. — Park, Sangmin , Korea (2009-05-28)

Lovely place to stay! This is a great place -- nice rooms at a really good price, excellent location, really fun and helpful staff. I stayed here for a few days and had a great time, and would recommend it to anyone who comes to this city. They also serve great food and have a really nice lounge area and garden. I will definitely stay here again if I come back to hangzhou! — Tom , UK (2009-05-04)

Position is close to the centre, in a green environment, and close to several sights. Service is excellent, extremely friendly, and helpful. Rooms are modern, clean, perfect. Absolutely recommendable! I stayed in the hostel for only one night, but for sure I will return to this beautiful little oasis. The opening of this hostel is only one month ago (3/2007) and I really hope that they can keep the standard. I really enjoyed the dumpling party, the little garden, the hot shower, the cold beer, the dvd collection while it was raining, the chinese and internationals, and the time with the other guests from all over the world. Frank -- who is definitely the funniest and nicest chinese guy I have ever met -- welcomes every guest as a friend and takes care for every need. — Sheila , German (2007-04-22)
