The Hostelz.com Review
Ostello di Agropoli Hostel is an old-style accommodation for a good price and is run like most YHA hostels in Italy -- basic, but good. Open only from March till October, it is a base to see the temples of Paestum and a good stop over either to or from Sicily.
Location
The hostel is located two minutes from Agropoli's beach but a fifteen-minute walk from the train station. It's easier to reach when taking the bus from Paestum of Salerno to Agropoli. The bus stop is between the hostel and the beach.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Clean dorms, private rooms and common bathrooms are on offer. Female and male traveler dorms are separated and the bathrooms are beside the rooms. Sanitary installations remind you more of a military camp, but the hot water runs and all is usable. The dorms are basic with metal bunk beds and lockers big enough to store valuables and day bags.
Common Rooms
The two common rooms are mainly used for breakfast (you get one warm drink and one pastry) and the cheap dinner offer (when enough guests sign up). One of the rooms has a TV and some books for those who get bored. In front of the hostel is a nice yard and garden area, which is great during the summertime for having a picnic and relaxing. The garden has enough line to dry your clothes after using the washing machine. There is no kitchen, but the fridge is for guests to use (they charge a fee per day).
Summary
Overall, the Agropoli Youth hostel is a nice, relaxing place to stay and chill out, with a beach and many beach restaurants close by. Friendly hosts and cheap accommodation invite you for a couple of quiet nights.

Relaxing -- both the staff and the hostel itself I enjoy my visit there -- soft as cotton both for my mind and body! — Hans Johansson , Sweden (2009-09-22)

Very nice Back to the roots of hosteling and backpacking, La Lanterna hostel in Agropoli offers basic accommodation for a very good price in a friendly environment.
Close to Paestum and its Roman and Greek ruins (the bus takes you there in fifteen minutes), the travelers find a very relaxing hostel with a nice garden to relax. Besides sleeping, it makes also a good base to spend some days at the local beach (two-minute walk) or even do trips to Salerno, Pompeii, or as far as Naples. With 12.50€ for a dorm bed, you can't go wrong. Breakfast is basic like at most Italian YHA hostels, there is a washing machine, a common room with TV, a fridge (no watermelons allowed), and enough common space to sit down and read a book. Bathrooms and rooms are very clean compared to other hostels close to the beach. Plenty of cheap restaurants around the area along the beach make sure you are not going to bed hungry. Overall, this is a perfect stop on the way to Sicily and to recharge your travel batteries. — backpackernews , RSA (2008-09-10)
Rundown building but clean rooms, an affordable place The building is horrible and old. It's within walking distance from the train station in around thirty minutes, not less! No public buses available on this route. The manager could look scary, but it's a nice one. Our double room was very reasonably priced, clean, spacious, no air conditioning. Beds quite uncomfortable, but acceptable ones. Gorgeous shower. Most important of all, there's a free table of "calcetto," popular game of years past. Ideal base for Paestum, really a fantastic place. You can easily go there by train. If we should go there again we would stay here again. — Davide & Michela - Chiavari -Ge- Italy , Italian (2007-09-07)

Great value, good management! My kids and I spent a good holiday there. — Tung (2005-08-31)
