The Hostelz.com Review
This huge hostel is a decent place to stay in Naples, if you don't mind braving the rather sketchy walk from the metro stop. Locals say it is safe, but it can be a bit intimidating especially if you are a woman traveling alone. From the Mergellina stop, you must pass a gas station, cross under a seedy overpass, and trek up a hill near what looks like an abandoned construction site past a chain link fence until you get to the ugly building where the hostel is located.

Once inside, the hostel is clean and well-maintained and is fairly social with a big TV room, kitchen, and lounging areas. There are also the "luxuries" of doors on the showers and seats on the toilet. The cost includes breakfast, which is the usual roll and coffee. The hostel can be extremely loud due to the train station nearby.

I thought it was decent at first
We arrived to a very nice reception hall, but our room was terrible. The walls were cardboard thin, the bed had hair all over it, the floor was dusty, there was hair in the bathroom sink and shower, mold all over the walls in the bathroom. Not to mention, we arrived at Napoli Centrale and realized we had to take another train to a different part of town. So when we arrived at stop Mergelina we had to hike up a hill all the while being yelled at by creepy Italian men. This hostel is not in a good part of town. We read that internet was free in the lobby so we brought our laptops, but the man at the front desk said there was no internet and we had to pay 3.50 euro for an hour of internet on their computers. Later, a guest came downstairs with his laptop and said there was free internet and gave us the password. Overall, we did not like the staff. Lastly, breakfast was a waste of our time. You can just go to a cafe and eat for 1 euro and actually enjoy the food. My friend and I will never stay at this hostel again.

Not so great
The hostel was in an good location transportation-wise, but getting to it from the train station was rather sketchy. The food was not the greatest, and the bathroom smelled so bad it was almost intolerable. They give free maps, but were unable to say how to get to main attractions in Naples like the archaeological museum. They told me to go to the central station and "ask around." The hostel itself was clean but I was not happy with it.

Probably the best place to stay in Naples. This hostel was far beyond my expectations. It wasn't dirty, the view was great. We had no problems here.

I stayed in this hostel three nights, really it wasn't bad. The sea view is very nice from the balcony, where you have to wait until the rooms open at 2:30. it's very cheap but the food isn't good. Napoli is a nice city but very dirty. I've never seen city more dirty than Napoli in europe (and africa). the city isn't safe and the people are very rude, the best thing there i made friends from France and Holland. if you have to go to Napoli, stay in this hostel.

when we went in ants were everywhere, hairs were all over the floor, mould was up the bathroom walls taller than myself (i am an averaged height person) and there was no shower curtain so everything including the toilet and toilet paper got wet. to top that off the doors were banging at all hours so it was very hard to get any sleep. after having a rough nights sleep we dragged ourselves out of bed for breakfast which was a bread roll. i wish we stayed in bed an extra hour instead. we also didn't arrive until 11 p.m. the night before but had to be out by nine a.m., as we were so tired from having no sleep we were running late and the apparently called cleaner didn't bother knocking and he just walked right in and pointed to his watch! imagine if i was getting changed!

This is a nice enough hostel once you are inside. Please do be careful if you are travelling alone and arriving at night, though. As the hostelz.com blurb says, it's quite a lonely walk up to the hostel from the station, and we did run into some difficulties.

It has a subway near and you have a great view from your room, and that's good. The rooms are nice and clean, the bathrooms are also good, but they could be better if the top of the strainer would not get glued to it! The breakfast is also poor but at least there is big fluffy bread and you can spread your butter normally. And the hot chocolate is also good, although there should be more choices. There should be a living room.

If you want a bit cleanliness and some sleep, then this institutionalized hostel can provide you with a nice opportunity!! The worst part about it is that it takes a while to get there. If I'd had come across a hostel closer to the city, I would definitely have chosen it. But, if you come late at night like I did, you usually do not have that many choices. The staff were not so friendly, either.

If you want to wake up at 3 a.m. because all the cats surrounding this big unfriendly hostel fight, go ahead, but otherwise don't go here. The staff aren't friendly, and Naples sucks anyway (it's the dirtiest town I have ever seen).

The hostel is clean and the staff are friendly. It's only a few metres from the metro station, and a supermarket is also just a 10 minute walk. It has a very nice view to the sea and Vesuvius from the terrace. Breakfast is also ok. The only negative points are a few ants inside the room (not very much) and a lot of dogs and cats outside the hostel.

It is nice and cousy place! Nothing luxourious, but quite cheap and not far from the center!

It's only 4 stops of metro from the main Naples train station (Garibaldi), and the climbing is not too bad comparing to some others. The rooms are all right and the toilet varies, but you can find a clean one on the corridor anyway. The breakfast room is all right, and it's the only breakfast room I've been playing music in the morning. BTW, if there is only one key to the room, do not lock the door when you are inside.

Don't try to bother going there (it is a 15 minute train ride and a short climb up the hill from the central Naples train station) without reservations after 11 am (and maybe even earlier). It may be full and they will redirect you to the Pompei HI hostel.

This hostel is terrible. There is no air conditioning, which is normal in Italy, but the windows are not adequate to bring in air, only mosquitoes. The bathroom was dirty and ants were crawling everywhere. There was no shower curtain so water went everywhere. Breakfast is like a medieval prison: here's your stale roll, go get your Dixie cup of coffee. Naples near the bay is very noisy at night, so between the ambulances and partygoers outside, the heat and bugs inside, and the fact that only 1 key per room is furnished so all night people are banging on doors to be let in, do not plan on getting any sleep at all. I gave up at 1 AM and went and checked in at a hotel.
