Otaki Oasis is a quiet country hostel in the town of Otaki, just one hour's drive from Wellington. Although it is in the countryside, the supermarket, shops, and pub are just two minutes' walk away.
This is an ideal location for people who like to see the sights of Wellington area without having to stay in the city, and is also a good place to stay overnight if you are heading north by bus and do not wish to get up before it gets light to catch an early departure from Wellington.
The hostel consists of a separate unit containing two bedrooms plus a kitchen, and a bunkroom complete with television attached to the manager's house. You are asked to your shoes at all times inside any part of the hostel to maintain cleanliness and appearance.
Fruit trees grow in the grounds, and you are welcome to pick and eat the fruit. The managers provide horse riding tuition and trips from one to three hours at reasonable rates, as well as quad bikes. It is possible to learn to trot in a one-hour lesson. They can also provide a brunch and evening meals at good prices by arrangement.
There are no internet facilities at the hostel, and the nearest phone available is a pay phone one hundred meters down the main road. Although the managers take credit card details to secure bookings, payment is by cash only.
