The Hostelz.com Review
Globetrotters Inn is located in a good central location of San Francisco but is in the Tenderloin area, which is the place where homeless people hang out. It is full of young international travelers who are engaged in active sports activities. The staff are friendly and helpful but the hostel itself is cramped and the rooms radiate off narrow hallways. There is twenty-four-hour security and someone on duty at night. There are lots of steep and narrow stairways, so keep that in mind if carrying a lot of gear.
The Location
The location is easy to find but the neighborhood is in a sketchy part of town. Within a few blocks' walk, however, are restaurants, shops, and public transportation. San Francisco is a walking city, so this location makes it easy to get around.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are a bit small and there aren't lockers to secure valuable items. The rooms are mostly bunk beds with six beds to a room. The mattress quality is variable. There is limited personal space but most people staying there just shower and sleep and use the time in the city rather than lounging around the hostel. The cleanliness is average for a hostel and there always seems to be a line to use the bathrooms. Because of the limited space guests strew their belongs around making it hard to navigate at times.
Common Spaces
There is a good size kitchen that is well equipped and a lounge area with a television. There is free internet access on a couple of computers and Wi-Fi is available. The amount of available public space is very small in proportion to the number of people staying in the hostel. The guests are young, friendly, and international. The staff will book excursions and provided advice. They sometimes organize a fun night.
Summary
For anyone looking for a young international crowd and an inexpensive place to stay in the heart of the city, this is a good choice. If spending time in the city rather than lounging in a hostel is the goal, then the location and price make this hostel worth considering. The hostel is non-smoking. It is a fun place and a good place to meet people from around the world to hang out with.

VERY BAD TIME!!!!! The WORST receptionists EVER!!! No heater on the first floor -- 54°F (12°C)so i felt sick as many other people in the hostel! Receptionists were incompetent and were thinking of leaving the heater that way for still a week! I had to leave as they weren't even planning on giving any discounts to the hosts! Oh and they were rude! NEVER EVER go there: but the staff, wifi is going up and down non-stop, they are 3 restrooms and 2 showers in the whole place! For this price, you can go to much better other hostels close by!!! — Anonymous (2010-11-23)

Brilliant! Warm hearted people work here, very affordable Coming from NYC to SF on a very limited budget, I found Globetrotters Inn via Hostelz.com. I stayed here for ten days. Simply fantastic experience. I met really fun travelers from all over the world. Even the workers at Globetrotters Inn are really nice. They did go out of their way to help me out. Rooms and restrooms are well maintained. I was fortunate enough to have good roomies that i could leave my stuff in the room during the day. And also it is very affordable. And coming from NYC, tenderloin wasnt scary at all, maybe i was lucky. — Josh , India (2009-08-08)

A fun place Cool people lived there. — Diego , Mexico (2008-11-04)
Guess you get what you pay for I was going to book somewhere else but booked the Globetrotter instead as it was cheaper. Guess you get what you pay for. I was pretty disappointed. There are no lockers to store your belongings and so I was stuck carrying the valuable things like my laptop and hard drive all around the entire time I was there. I was on top bunk in the dorm room with no ladder provided to get up to the top bunk, it was pretty interesting getting up there. No sinks are in the bathrooms and no hand soap provided. The refrigerators are small and jam packed full, great difficulty storing food. Rooms are very small and I had two roommates who by the look of things must live there as they have so much stuff all over the room and I had no place to unpack my clothes to. Oh and it really isn't that clean. Should have stayed somewhere else, much better for not that much more! Next time I won't save a few bucks at the cost of my comfort. — a Little Disappointed , USA (2008-06-23)
Pretty lame Not really a fun hostel. Was full of long-termers all working in the restaurant industry or looking for work. Good location though, just don't wander in to the tenderloin. My room was extremely small and full of bags and random crap the long-term renters had accumulated (which isn't the hostel's fault, I know. But the room was tiny for four beds). One of the showers had a padlock on it when I was there, but the one on the second floor was good. Overall, it isn't a rancid hellhole but don't expect to be having a good time here. — Clint (2007-12-14)

real nice first hostel experience. brad and yuri, the employees, are really nice. they will answer any of your questions you have about the city. there are two computers provided to the hostelers with internet access. the TV room/kitchen is a great place to meet other people in the hostel. the shower upstairs is kind of small compared to the one inside the kitchen (so if you want some room and a better shower head use the kitchen shower). while the hostel is next to "the tenderloin," there's no worry, the people standing around won't hurt you, maybe just ask for money or try to sell you something. you can come and go as you please, and the hostel is only two blocks away from the powell/market station. they offer a weekly rate of 110 which is a really great deal. oh and dont forget the japanese style artwork painted on the doors (well two when you walk into the hostel and one on the first floor). oh and they have a collection of books in the library for your enjoyment. cable television, if you are wondering. your mattress might be take or give, a mattress pad might be nice for some. — mina (2007-01-21)
Last week I called the Globetrotters Inn to reserve a private room for three weeks. I spoke with Andy who put my name in the books and took down my credit card information as well. I was to check-in on 22 September — tomorrow. I just called to verify, and was told that even though my name was in the book, someone was already staying in the room until at least Sunday, September 25. This is very disappointing and terrible customer service! Now I'm left with no place to stay for three weeks in San Francisco! I wouldn't recommend a place that treats people with hostility and does business indifferently! — Annabell Murray (2005-09-21)

I stayed here a few days ago, for almost a week. Fun people, ok clean but not brilliant. It's cheap ($17 per night), and that's what it looks like. But, the people were fun and the location was good — as long as you didn't walk into the Tenderloin area (to your left when you walk out the door). Relatively little noise and only four people in your room for $17 bucks is a good deal. Use the kitchen/common room! The people are a lot of fun. I would probably stay here again (unless I win the lottery). — Inky (2005-08-23)

A messy and most enjoyable time was had by all. Anybody that remembers me from summer 2003, I was the pizzaman. — Big Al (2004-01-18)
