The Hostelz.com Review
Snowdon Lodge is a great little hostel. From the moment you walk in it is friendly. It has a great location, great atmosphere and friendly knowledgeable staff who want to ensure you enjoy your visit.
The Location
The hostel is in Tremadog, about 15 minutes walk northwards up the road from Porthmadog railway station. There are also bus stops close by to the hostel which head to other locations throughout Snowdonia - a good deal is the £4.95 Sherpa day ticket which will take you to Llanberis (for Snowdon Mountain railway), Caernarfon and various other places for walking around Mount Snowdon. Nearby in Tremadog itself is a Spar supermarket and three pubs - further away in Porthmadog is a wider range of shops, takeaways, cafes and pubs.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The style of the hostel is casual and this is reflected in the rooms. There are lockers and door locks which work. The room has the usual bunkbeds and a large window with nice views of the surrounds. There are plenty of bathrooms with reliable hot water. There is also a drying room downstairs to dry wet clothes.
Common Spaces
The hostel is a sociable place with several common areas. There is a sitting/lounge room at the front with a TV. There is a large breakfast room in which to have breakfast - self service porridge, toast, tea, coffee and orange juice - and is of a higher standard than would normally be expected. There is also a bar at the back with reasonably priced drinks.
Guests have a wide range of ages although most tend to be from Britain and most tend to be there because of its close proximity to Snowdonia. There are also a lot of walkers who stay there.
Summary
Perhaps one annoying thing about Snowdon Lodge is that it does not do online reservations. It is possible to email but it is necessary to call afterwards to confirm the booking with a credit card.
Nonetheless this is a very small gripe for such a great place in a great location - definitely a hostel to come back to again and again.

I have stayed here a couple of times over the years. It is my favorite hostel ever. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The place is clean and warm and dry and modern. It's the house Lawrence of Arabia was born in (that room is now the loo!)!!! The staff were very accommodating, and I had a nice breakfast. The best. Even though I am an old grown-up lady these days, I look forward to returning. — Annaliese Moyer (2004-12-27)

This hostel was one of my favorites in all of my travels in Europe. The couple who owns the hostel is very knowledgeable about hikes around Snowdonia. They are very kind and help with any questions. It's also very secure, with a key code you must enter every day. The morning breakfast is a nice service and they pack lunches if you don't want to go to the grocery store. This is an ideal place for those who want to hike and chill in one of the UK's most beautiful areas. — Emily (2004-10-14)

This hostel was fantastic! Staff were brilliant and were more than happy to give detailed advice about local activities, etc., and have very good knowledge of hiking routes throughout Snowdonia. The dorm was fine - very clean and big enough. The bar, kitchen and common room facilities are very good and you can even hire films/games for a small charge. Overall the atmosphere was very friendly and welcoming. The hostel is also ideally placed for Snowdonia, and within walking distance of pubs and shops. The beach is only about 10 minutes drive away too! I would definitely recommend Snowdon Lodge. — Sharon (2004-08-05)

The common room is amazing: fireplace with fire! The atmosphere was friendly, also lot of families with kids. The dormitory was a little bit too full of beds - like a puzzle. — Anna (2004-03-23)
