The Hostelz.com Review
Hostel Hostel is a small, cozy place where you can relax. As both a place simply to rest your head or meet people and have a good time, it is a wonderful choice, especially for the low prices asked.

The Location

Hostel Hostel is located about fifteen minutes from the train/bus station by foot in a quiet neighborhood. The fairly difficult directions and roads mean it is better to take a taxi, however you must be careful that the taxi drivers don't rip you off. Hostel Hostel is somewhat distant from the main attractions of Skopje -- between ten and twenty minutes by foot -- but for those less inclined to walk, the staff can summon the services of the plentiful and cheap taxis to see you to your preferred destination. Finally, there is a large parking space directly in front of the hostel for those who need it.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms themselves are small but the beds are serviceable and come with sheets, blankets, and pillows. Unfortunately door locks and security lockers are unavailable except for in the private room. There are several dorm rooms containing six beds each and a private room that sleeps two in one large bed. The private room is quite small though, with barely enough room to move about once inside. The bathrooms are quite clean, and have shower/baths with soap dishes, hand soap, and enough room to change. However there are only two bathrooms, which can cause traffic jams.

Common Spaces

The common room is where Hostel Hostel truly shines. Consisting of two connected but separate areas, it is comfortable, well decorated, and possesses a warm and friendly atmosphere. There are enough seats, except perhaps in high season, and the room is set up in a way that encourages people to get together and chat. There is a small book exchange, a TV, a fully equipped kitchen with plenty of space and free tea and coffee, an outside patio with additional seating, and a large front lawn. A dartboard hangs on the wall and is a lot of fun while killing time, but unfortunately there is only one old computer that has a decent connection with the internet. Breakfast in the morning is served in the kitchen next to the fireplace, burning with wood and providing both warmth and a nice, homey feel. Breakfast is delicious, consisting of bread, cheese, tomatoes, jam, and eggs.

Summary

All in all, Hostel Hostel is a great place to spend time and meet fellow travelers. Despite being somewhat small, it is this very thing that gives it a comfortable and friendly feel. The rooms are far enough away to prevent any noise from the common room from waking up or disturbing those who want a quieter experience and so it is good for all types of traveler.

Good for the given price
This Hostel might really not be easy to find if you try to find it on your own but my taxi driver knew perfectly well where it is located. The people working there are very friendly, the hostel is pretty clean. The rooms are really small but it's good enough if you just sleep there. You probably want to explore the city during the day and not stay in. The hostel is located ten minutes' walk from the city centre. There are no lockers but I think it is quite safe. It's a good value for the price.

Below Average given price
The good things were the staff -- friendly (a little hung over in the morning however) and the nice warm fire. Only two bathrooms and these were relatively clean but did have a rather unhygenic open pipe for water drainage. Breakfast was super. Rooms however were a disappointment -- dormitory is army-style bunks with ultra-bad mattresses and so tiny -- would be terrible when full. The double room is also a joke -- the bed can hardly fit in the room and because it is is small the door can hardly open. Nowhere to store your packs. No locks or lockable areas and we were slightly anxious about security as the hostel has an alternative nature to it. It was hard to find -- we walked and got totally lost and even the locals trying to help us found it hard. It doesn't quite look as in the photos! Expensive and poor return on your money here.

Hostel is a very nice hostel once you get there, but it is very difficult to locate even with the best of directions. I took a cab from the station and even the cab driver had a difficult time to locate it. Other than that, the staff are very friendly and most accommodating and prepare a good breakfast each morning.
