Cong Hostel & Caravan & Camping Park is on a campsite and also caters to the campers. The level of cleanliness is acceptable, but is not extraordinary. The reception, common room, dorms, kitchen and showers are all in different parts of the building.
The Location
The hostel is located about a mile (two kilometers) from the the village of Cong, where the movie "The Quiet Man" was filmed. A vehicle is strongly recommended for access for this hostel. Buses do go through Cong but the walk is bit far. This is not a very social hostel, as the majority of those here are camping just across the way.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are very small and cramped. There is no place to lock up or store your belongings. The halls are very narrow and the walls are very thin -- any sort of noise is heard by most of the rooms on the hall passage. The bathrooms and showers are downstairs. There are male and female showers and bathrooms but the showers are coin-operated.
Common Spaces
The common space is in another part of the building, next to the laundry facility, upstairs. There is a couch and chairs and a table but no TV, games, or books. There is very poor Wi-Fi reception in the entire building and a very long password.

A skeleton key is given for the rooms at reception. The stairs are narrow and the kitchen is basic. The cooking pots and pans and utensils are grungy and there is dust on the dishes. Nice place, good value I stayed one night in early August 2008. I was happy with the accommodations. The self-catering kitchen and dining area were clean and surprisingly large, and the grounds offered the chance for sunshine and fresh air. The staff was friendly, courteous, and well-informed about the area, and they provided me with some special assistance in making last minute travel arrangements. I would stay there again. — C.E.
