Loved this place! What a great place to stay in Rio! 1 street away from Posto 9 at Ipanema beach and with several common rooms and a bar in the hostel, where you can meet other guests. It's clean and charming and breakfast is that great, you will not be hungry 'till dinner (Bread, toast, yoghurt, several fruits already sliced, cake, several jams, butter, cheese, ham, several fruit juices, tee, good coffee -- as much as you can eat). Big board with daily recommended places to visit, concerts, parties. A lot of hangers in the shower room to put your stuff (important for girls). Free big private locker in the dorm which fits 2 bags. Service was more like a hotel than a hostel. Just great. Will always book there when I'm in Rio. — Simone , Switzerland (2010-11-21)

Great Place Mango Tree is a great place to stay. Very clean, best beds, great breakfast, so close to the beach. — Sandy , Canada (2008-04-14)

I stayed at the Mango Tree during carnival in its first week of opening and loved it so much that I went back at the end of my trip two months later! Lance and Ingrid couldn't have been more welcoming and accommodating. They offered excellent advice about clubs, bars, and restaurants and were always willing to go the extra mile. Breakfast was great and the hostel has the best location in Ipanema -- right next to Poste 9 and in the middle of lots of shops and restaurants. I also don't think that I have been to a cleaner hostel. I highly recommend it as the place to stay in Rio. — Katie Nicholson , UK (2007-05-10)

The Mango Tree was a great home base for exploring Rio and experiencing Carnival 2007. Though the hostel had just opened the week we got there, things were well run and comfortable. Ingrid and Lance and their team were all very friendly and helpful, the rooms (I stayed in a en-suite, but saw several other rooms as well) were acceptably clean, and the location in Ipanema is perfect for accessing all the sights and scenes in Rio. One of the Mango Tree's best features are the several nice common areas in which to meet and get to know other guests. Since I was there during Carnival it was way expensive, but I understand the prices are much, much kinder during the rest of the year. Also, in a city that is known for being a bit dangerous, the Mango Tree felt like an oasis of safety. — James from Oregon (2007-03-05)
