The Location
HI - Penticton Hostel is conveniently located at 464 Ellis Street in downtown Penticton. The bus station is within a two-minute walk from the hostel and only a few blocks away from the Okanagan Lake.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel offers private rooms as well as dorms. The hostel can accommodate couples, groups, and solo travelers. Rooms have lockers to store luggage and belongings. Linen and towels are provided. Rooms are small and cramped. Little effort seems to have been put into the decor and layout of the rooms. The aim seems to be to attempt to cram as many bunk beds as possible into one room. Shared bathrooms are sporadic but are kept relatively clean.
Common Spaces
The common areas consist of two lounge areas, a kitchen, dining room, and outside patio. The kitchen is big and offers all the usual needed facilities. The lounge area on the main floor has comfy sofas and is a good place to access the free wireless internet or make use of the offered computer terminals. There is also a small book swap. The other large lounge is located in the basement and is dimly lit. But it does offer cable television and a foosball table as well as guest laundry. There is a large dining area on the main floor or on a nice day one can cook up something on the BBQ on the back patio. The hostel offers bicycle rentals and also offers bike storage if you have your own bike with you.
Summary
The hostel offers good common areas that are spacious and offer a good place to socialise, however the sleeping areas are very cramped by contrast. The HI Hostel is an 1908 Heritage house and is slightly rundown. However, all the usual needed facilities are offered and it it has a good central location.
