La Grieta Hostel is only a ten- to fifteen-minute walk from the bus terminal. The hostel is just off the main street of San Martin. Staff are friendly and very helpful. They explain about trips that can be taken and walks in the local area and how long they should take.
All the facilities are clean, especially the kitchen area. Most people staying here appear to be Argentinian or certainly Latin American. Breakfast is not included but there are several local stores you can buy bread and other necessities. In the four-man dorms, each person has a lockable cupboard which our large backpacks easily fit into.
There is a TV/soft chair area seating around six people. There is an eating area in the kitchen but you can also sit in a lounge type area just between the kitchen and the TV area. Cable TV and plenty of English channels are available. On nice days guests tend to sit in the garden out the front and receive visits from the resident cat. It is open to the road via a gate, but quite private either side.
The bathrooms are very clean. They have a toilet brush, which may seem like a strange comment -- but they do appear to be somewhat of a rarity in South America. On top of that air freshener spray is also present for those unfortunate moments. As for the water, it is warm and the pressure better than average.
Overall it's a cool place at an excellent price.
