It's been a dream of Mark and Wendy's to run their own backpackers, and now that dream has become reality.
Mark is from the Bay of Islands and Wendy a local Motuekan!
Their passion for travel has taken them afar, which shows in their many works of art within their 16 bed home.
The Laughing Kiwi is a vibrant, new, happy home where you are welcomed by two well traveled laughing Kiwis. The functional kitchen, built by Mark, is beautifully finished in native Rimu and Macracarpa timbers.
Loose yourself in the new blue lounge suite and listen to a few tunes on the stereo. Play a board game, or two, or chill out with a selection of good books.
Motueka is a sunny place, so while away an afternoon in your choice of outdoor area, or relax in the FREE bubbly starlit spa while the sun sets over the distant mountains. Then, sink blissfully to sleep in the comfort of your own bed complete with sheets and duvets to die for!!

Spa and BBQ Great for families. Great for me. But the workers are annoying with their homesickness. — B (2007-09-17) The Laughing Kiwi Backpackers is a really nice and relaxed hostel. I stayed there for one week and had a good time. Mark and Wendy (the owners) are very friendly. The hostel has two little houses, each with dorm/doppel-rooms, bathroom and well equipped kitchen (one house mainly is for the travellers who stay just for a few nights, the other one for the people who work in motueka)
The hostel is very clean. It doesn't has a tv but a stereo so you can listen to cds and radio. the "back house" has a veranda with a table and banks to sit on.
I only can recommend this hostel. The beds are so comfy as well as the lounches in the common rooms and I can't think of anything I didn't like about this hostel. It has also a free spa which is really great and Saturday evenings you get a home cooked muffin =) yummi! — Regina , Germany (2006-12-14)
