The Hostelz.com Review
To find Rucksacks Hostel, walk from the central bus station north to Bath Street, and turn left. Continue for quite some distance (longer than the directions from their website would imply) and cross over a highway. The hostel can be found just down the street from the highway, across from the library (where you can access the internet for free.) There is a purple flag out front of the hostel, making it easy to spot. The walk is approximately twenty minutes.

We were greeted by a very nice gentleman and given a very thorough tour of the hostel (which was definitely necessary). The building is maze-like and a little confusing. The hostel is relatively clean, with no bugs or vermin at all to speak of. Water is hot and plentiful in the showers (which have no curtains, although the rooms they are in, containing toilets and showers, are private.) There is, however, no hot water in any of the sinks.

Sleeping arrangements are cramped but quite acceptable, and also neat and clean. The rooms are quiet and kept at a comfortable temperature. Their free breakfast consists of toast and jam (be there early), and they have internet, washers and dryers, and coffee for a fee. There is also a big common room with a TV and DVD player.

In town, visit the Glasgow Cathedral, associated Necropolis behind it, and Buchanan Street, a large outdoor pedestrian mall with lots of nice shops and tons of people.

4  Nice beds, thick, small dorms, and knowledgable staff -- we rebooked had a real nice stay here, friendly informed staff let us know all the inside info about the city and where to go. they really made our stay special.  , england ()
2  Pretty poor generally but cheap enough to be ok A pretty low grade backpackers hostel. Good points: price/location. Bad points: cramped rooms with SQUEAKY beds. Shower was filthy. Fire alarm went off at 9.30. Cleaner came in at 10.30 and turned on the light. Generally a bit of a headwreck.  , Irish ()
1  A bad and dirty hostel First of all, when you book your beds in this hostel, the confirmation mentions Zimbabwe, which is rather confusing, I think. But that is not where it ends. When we arrived in the Rucksack hostel, we did not receive very friendly treatment. The guy at the reception just walked with us to our room and left. The room is very, very small, cramped with six beds. There were loads of beds free in the hostel, but nonetheless all six beds were filled in our room. And the room was disgusting -- pubic hairs, toenails, and old M&Ms everywhere. And no locks on the door, so you can't leave your stuff there. You have to shower in the dirty basement on a wooden pallet, and the shower barely worked. And when we asked what we could do in Glasgow, the response at the reception was, "Do what the Irish do. Get drunk and get laid. So get drunk, and come back." Inappropriate, maybe?  , UK ()
1  Very, Very, Very Bad This is by far the worst Hostel I have ever been to. If you want to stay at the worst hostel on the planet, please go here. It is creepy, there is a murky mouldy smell at all times, and it lies underground in a shady basement. The shower only have cold water, there are tubes sticking out of the wall, the toilets are not cleaned and stink. The carpet is very dirty and unclean, the kitchen and rooms are very dirty and impossible to use. The rooms are very dark and tiny. there is a very bad smell in them, almost like acid sweat. and it almost gives you the feeling that you are staying at a whore house. There are no locks on the doors of the dorms at all! Anyone can just walk into all the rooms and take your stuff. The rooms contain lockers, but these are without any locks too. This is to be considered a very bad thing. Your valuables are in danger of being stolen. You should stay far away from this Hostel. they will rob you of your money in exchange for a very bad and almost uninhabitable hostel. This should be reported to the health inspection association.  , Denmark ()
