The Hostelz.com Review
Lazy Duck Hostel in Nethy Bridge is awesome -- a little bit of heaven on earth. It's a secret we'd have liked to keep to ourselves, until we realized that all good things in life are even better when they're shared.
The Location
Lazy Duck is a quiet get-away place just outside the little village of Nethy Bridge. It's easy to find once you've seen the sign "Lazy Duck -- 1 mile" in the centre of Nethy Bridge. The small hostel is situated right inside/next to a pine forest. It's just all very peaceful and quiet, all stress falls away the moment you enter the place.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are eight beds in the Lazy Duck hostel. However, if people don't know each other, only six beds will be booked. Downstairs, there are two bunk beds. The lower bunk beds have curtains, allowing for some privacy. Upstairs, there are four more mattresses, two of which can function as a double bed. Note that in the upstairs area, you do need to bend down a bit, as it's too low to stand up straight, so perhaps not the best place to stay for someone who has back problems or who's quite tall. The hostel is one open space, so there is not a lot of privacy, and a snorer among the other guests might pose a problem. Bring earplugs if you're a light sleeper. The hostel also has a bathroom. It is basic, but clean and in good working order.
Common Spaces
The owner David Dean described the hostel succinctly when he said that it is something in between a mountain hut and a playhouse. It is cosy, fun, and great attention is constantly being paid to detail. Perhaps the greatest thing about the common living room is the wood stove, for which wood is provided and which will warm up the entire hut once you get it going.
The shared kitchen is well equipped. We especially like the cafetiere, allowing for a proper cup of coffee, rather than the instant coffee provided in many other hostels. There is also a sound system and some CDs. The Lazy Duck does have Wi-Fi, though when we were there it did not work in the hostel itself, only in and around the main house. But really, in such a great place, you do not want to be disturbed by internet!
Summary
Lazy Duck Hostel is an experience not to be missed. The above description does not do it nearly enough justice. Just go check it out, and we hope your stay will be as peaceful, happy, and lazy as ours!

Charming, original, and very well run. Visited this summer and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Yes, it's small all right but imaginatively appointed and well equipped. Pleasant walks, good views all around. Had a lovely barbecue in the patio area outside and pleasant. Ducks, red squirrels, hens all around so take your cameras! Staff very helpful and pleasant -- good communication by e-mail or phone. Would definitely go back if up there again! — Elspeth , France (2007-09-04)
