The Hostelz.com Review
J-Hoppers Hiroshima Trad Guesthouse is a new addition to Hiroshima's hostel scene. It is located off the tram line and it's easy to find. Some visitors may take issue with the distance from the JR Hiroshima train station but the ride here is well worth it. Hiroshima J-Hoppers has a young staff that's fun and a crowd that's social and helpful.

The Location

Hiroshima J-Hoppers is a fifteen- to twenty-five-minute tram ride from JR Hiroshima Station, depending on traffic. The instructions provided by the hostel are fine -- we found the hostel without any problems. On the way to the hostel, you will pass the a-bomb dome and most of downtown.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The dorm rooms are of two types -- either a large room filled with bunk beds and a rack for luggage or a smaller room in Japanese tatami mat style. This room has one bunk bed and one traditional futon for sleeping on the floor, Japanese style.

Common Spaces

Hiroshima J-Hoppers has lots of common spaces. On the ground level, there's a patio in the front and a table in the foyer next to the front desk. There's also a small common room where you can use the coin operated computers, a kitchen, and a deck on the roof. There is free password protected Wi-Fi throughout the building. Each of the five floors has a toilet and two sinks. There are shower rooms on the first three floors. It's a bit dated but clean and functional.

Summary

Hiroshima J-Hoppers has many things going for it -- free Wi-Fi, tatami mat rooms, and great beer and sake selection. The staff and facilities make up for the distance from the JR station. If you plan to spend a few days in Hiroshima, J-Hoppers is a good choice.

5  Very good I stayed one night at J-hoppers. Very well run, staff were very friendly. Clean, decent kitchen and lounge area. Free Wi-Fi and no curfew, very enjoyable stay!  , USA ()
5  Typically well run, Japanese backpackers hostel The staff here are very friendly and welcoming, and the place is kept spotlessly clean. There's free wireless internet for those with their own laptops, or pay internet terminals which charge 100 yen for thirty minutes. You can also do your laundry here for 100 yen and leave it to dry on the roof terrace, which is a nice bonus (or is it's raining there's a coin laundrette with dryers just around the corner!) The location is decent, being about a ten-minute walk from the "Atom Bomb Dome" and main shopping area. It is a little further to the main train station however, so it's best to take a tram. The directions given by the hostel are 100% accurate and easy to follow. The only slight criticism is that the kitchen and common room areas are tiny. On the plus side there is a beer vending machine in the kitchen! I had a great stay here and recommend it 100%.  , UK ()
5  Wonderful This hostel was kept neat and tidy. It was close to town and had a friendly staff who was very helpful. It was a great place to hang out and meet people. Only problems is that the kitchen is a bit small and the dorms have up to 9 people in them.  , Canada ()
