The Hostelz.com Review
Lausanne Guesthouse & Backpacker is an excellent place to stay in Lausanne. The hostel looks like a hotel, the only difference is that the rooms are less spacious than would be expected in a hotel. Every room has an amazing view over the city to the lake; some have balconies to allow you to enjoy the view even more. Included in the cost of the hostel you get a free city travel card which allows you to ride buses and the metro for free during your stay. There is no curfew or lockout, and checkout is before 11am. This hostel offers everything you need for a great stay in Lausanne.
The Location
The hostel is situated in a quiet residential area of Lausanne, but you don’t need to go far to find all the main attractions. The hostel is just a five-minute metro ride to the lovely waterfront area of Ouchy. It is also walking distance from the old town and ancient Cathedral. If you’re looking for nightlife, the area of Flon where everything is happening is only fifteen minutes’ walk or a five-minute ride on the metro.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are all clean and bright with beautiful views of the city and lake. The dorms are four-bed with shared bathrooms. Double, single, and family rooms are also available with private or semi-private bathrooms (semi-private means only you and a few other people have a key card which will open a specific bathroom). The bathrooms are spotless. Linen is available for a fairly cheap price. Lockers are available to use for free. There is a washer and a tumble-dryer in the laundry room at a reasonable price.
Common Spaces
There are a number of common spaces, there is a lounge where you can find lots of information about Lausanne and what to do there and, if you are in need of some entertainment, some board games and an out-of-tune piano. There is a computer space with expensive computer use and printing available, as well as free Wi-Fi. The kitchen is well stocked and has a good food-labeling system. Basic condiments are available as well as a variety of good pots, pans, and knives. The hostel has an excellent garden with a BBQ that guests can use. Unfortunately access to common areas is not allowed after checkout.
Summary
This hostel is in a great location and has lovely rooms and bathrooms. It is not the most social hostel but all-in-all, it is a brilliant base from which to explore the delights of Lausanne.

This hostel is an excellent place to stay at. It has a great location near the train station, and has a great kitchen and internet access, and superb toilets! The place itself is beautiful and spotlessly clean. There are nice views from the room. My only complaint is that it gets noisy when the train passes by! — Fish Cake (2004-05-26)
