Filthy, disgusting. Isn't worth it. I recently visited this hostel with some friends and we can say firmly that we are not going back there ever again. It doesn't have a parking (although they say they do, it's a city parking) and it is absolutely filthy. There were clothes lying everywhere (even on top of the radiator), the smell was awful and the sheets and bed linen were disgusting. The bunk beds are supported with wooden planks and the room looked like it hadn't been thoroughly cleaned in YEARS. In our room we found used beer glasses from previous customers, and the room next to us was overfilled with dirty clothes from other customers. Even though the atmosphere was "somehow" good (as in other customers who were as disgusted by it as we were), it doesn't compensate for the bad time.
I woudn't recommend this hostel to my worst enemies. For a few more euros you can have a splendid evening anywhere else. — Anonymous , ES (2011-02-14)

Good This is a good place with a very good atmosphere. The location is ok (five minutes by foot to the city centre) and the staff is very helpful. The room are small and the bathroom also. — Pezzente , Italy (2009-08-25)
I tried to book this hostel several times, but no success – every time they told to call fourteen days in advance and ensured me that I do not have to worry that the hostel will be booked. When I called them fourteen days in advance, they offered me two beds in one room and two beds in another one – because they are booked a nearly full, even I called really soon that day! I tried to have explanation but they were not really nice! I can not tell how good the hostel is, but the communication with reception is really bad. Hope you will have better experience! — Jan (2006-07-12)
This place is a tax fiddle for the owner. There should be a lower rating for this place, not fit for homeless people. Don't stay there, it is terrible. Smelly, noisy, dirty. They kick you out if you stay more than five days, and don't tell you till eleven p.m., so you can't find another place to sleep. — Mick (2006-04-17)

I visited this Hostel in september and first thought it would be a crusty place to live. However the people I met there made me feel at home (Thanks David and Miriam!). Every night there was music and entertainment!
Visit it I challenge you to ever leave — David Logan (2005-12-22)

Me and my brother, Tomer, stayed in this hostel for five days. This hostel is the best. The atmosphere was amazing !!! With regards to staff members, you just can't expect more. Every night after a long day, we came back with a huge smile on our faces, while they were playing guitars. One night, the staff members invited all hostel visitors to a pub. The kitchen is very good and full of all the necessary equipment. Absolutely the best hostel in Galway. Enjoy!!! — Avi (2005-11-09)
I have to say that the hostel was incredibly dirty and in the rooms, especially Dominique's, there were so many things on the ground that you couldn't walk anywhere!!! The smell was so awful that we wanted to throw up every minute we spent inside. To have a better smell we had to use our own perfumes to refresh the air in the room!! In the room we were with three men as dirty as porks!! It's scandalous!! And the most incredible thing was the shower. You couldn't get hot water unless you pull on a little string!! The director, Dominique, a stupid French man with an old humor and whose jokes weren't funny at all, was not very welcoming!! It was unbelievable to see such a dirty kitchen. We didn't dare to eat there because of the bacteria, especially in the sugar, which was gray!! A little piece of advice: don't go there. — Audrey Sofian Laetitia (2005-10-03)

The atmosphere at the Salmon Weir was great!! There were a lot of long termers who all lived in the "swamp!" A good crew of folk from many nationalities! Everyone was welcome and it was more of a home than a hostel! It had decent cooking facilities, a lounge area, laid-back atmosphere and it's close to all the good pubs, shops, etc. and always great craic!! Cheers from the busy guy!! — Nik home away from home (2005-08-28)

Over my years of travelling I've stayed in many hostels, but I must say, that this was one of the best! The staff makes you feel at home, with great hospitality. I'll definitely come back again soon. Thanks! — Barbara (2005-06-20)

I've spent two nights in this hostel and it was a great time! It's very nice — you have to stop here for a night!

This place will suck you in and you will be hard pressed to ever leave! Trust me, I stayed here for nine months, which in Ireland is like a life sentence!!! It rocks, and so will you. — Mark (2005-02-25)

I stayed there twice and it was one of my favorite hostels that I ever stayed at. I love the atmosphere and the staff. — Annette (2005-02-10)

This hostel is unreal! It has cute guys and clean rooms! What else can you ask for? — Caili (2004-11-17)

I have visited hundreds of hostels across Europe, and the Salmon Weir hostel in Galway is by far the best. Its excellent, welcoming staff, clean, comfy rooms and laid-back atmosphere made it feel like I was at home. This hostel made my last trip to Ireland an absolute delight. — Benjamin (2004-09-16)
This hostel lost my reservations. My group of three was then split up into three different rooms because they said there weren't three beds in one room together. I was put in a room of four beds, and only one was taken (which left two for the rest of my group). The rooms smelled and the sheets were dirty. It was the worst sleep of my life! — Sarah (2004-08-13)
