The Location
White House Backpackers Lodge is located at 816 Vernon street in the centre of Nelson. It is about a seven-minute walk away from the Greyhound bus station.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel offers dormitories as well as private rooms. Both linen and towels are provided for guest usage. Some of the private rooms are quite fancy and others are more basic, accommodating various guests' budget and taste. The private heritage rooms are nicely decorated and have hardwood flooring. The hostel can accommodate lone travelers, couples, and families as well as groups. Shared modern bathrooms are plentiful and are kept clean.
Common Spaces
There is a large modern kitchen with all needed facilities. There is also a BBQ on the covered front patio that can be used by guests. There is limited dining area as there is only one table in the kitchen but there is also some seating area on the front porch. Free pancakes are available each morning, but guests must cook the pancakes themselves. Tea and coffee are also available for a small donation.There is a large lounge area with a small book swap and several board games for guest usage. There is no television in the hostel, which encourages socialising with fellow guests and travelers.
There is also a computer terminal available for guests to use free of charge. Wireless internet is available for those traveling with laptops.
Summary
White House Backpackers is a friendly, welcoming place with a good central location. The hostel is small and is not a party place. Overall it's a very nice place stay whilst in Nelson.

Welcoming The perfect place to stay in Nelson. Great hospitality with helpful and knowledgeable hostess. Very clean, tasteful decor, cosy rooms, free internet.
