Hostelz.com's Review
Viru Backpackers in Tallinn is located on the main shopping street of Tallinn above a footwear store. The building is welcoming and clean and you’ll have to climb two flights of stairs to arrive at the hostel (no elevator). It is a rather large building with lots of residential apartments, so you’ll feel like home right away. On arrival, you’ll get a key to all doors so there is no curfew to deal with.

The Location

The hostel is reasonably priced and has an excellent location right in the old city center. It is easily accessed by public transport from both the airport or the port. Everything -- not only the sights but also most clubs and bars -- in the old city center is within easy walking distance, which makes the hostel a perfect base for a night out in town without having to drive or walk a long way to get back to your bed.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are clean and decorated in warm colours; linen and towels are provided. Some of the rooms have windows facing the main street -- those might be a little noisy, especially on a Saturday night. Bathroom facilities are basic but clean and well kept. Occasionally, you’ll have to queue for the shower (especially in the mornings), because there is only one shower to be shared by all the guests.

Common Spaces

There is a large common area with a comfortable coach and lots of magazines and travel brochures to read; you can also use the computer with internet access or connect to the free wireless internet with your own mobile device. The staff is happy to help you with your travel plans, and they even offer a free city tour. There are safety lockers and you can also do your laundry for a small fee. A small but well-equipped kitchen is ready for you to use; free breakfast consisting of coffee, toast, and cereals is served in the morning. The atmosphere is friendly and fun, you can hang out and meet other travelers in the common area, but it is much quieter than a lot of other places because it can only accommodate up to seventeen people.

Summary

Overall, Viru Backpackers is a very good choice if you are looking for a not-too-busy hostel with an excellent location.
