The Hostelz.com Review
USA Hostels San Francisco is conveniently located four blocks up on Post Street from Union Square. When arriving at SFO international airport, you may use the BART to Powell Street -- go up Powell to Post and walk four blocks up. The hostel is on the left hand side. Otherwise door-to-door shuttle is also available for a charge.

The staff are friendly and helpful, which is enjoyable after an international flight. Rooms are basic but really clean with comfy mattress and only two sets of bunk beds, a sink, individual lockers, and a clothes closet. Not all dorms have ensuite bathroom as recently advertised, but there are at least five showers per floor. There's a sink with large mirror for girls' makeup and hair drying.

The place is cozy, with orange, green, and purple decor and even if it's still under renovation, this doesn't bother the guest at all. There is a common area by the reception with Wi-Fi access for those traveling with a laptop. Hostel life happens on the basement with a TV lounge (looks like a movie theater), a well equipped kitchen, an internet access center (there is a charge), a lounge with billiards, and a laundry. For those who like partying, this is the place, but it as all happens downstairs, it doesn't bother those looking for rest or good night sleep.

They offer a free "all you can make" pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. There are a bunch of free or cheap activities like a city walking tour, Muir Woods and wine country, and Yosemite Valley. Even if you booked on the internet, you have the option to pay cash or with travelers check upon arrival, which saves you a 10% fee for credit card processing.

After staying in several San Francisco hostels, this is becoming our favorite one because of its central location and the feeling that place is really secure (key card access to building and room as well as the individual lockers).

4  Great but a bit noisy I stayed here with 3 friends in June. The staff was nice from the start and really helpful. The room was clean, the linen and the blankets were clean. The electric outlet in the lockers is a great idea! The showers were clean and there was enough room so that you could get out of the shower and dry yourself without getting wet again! The kitchen and the whole basement area were clean and very convenient, though we didn't really use the whole "nightlife" in the hostel. I loved the little papers with all the directions to the tourist spots, very useful! Only one down point: we were in the first room near the reception and the first night was VERY noisy! There was a party going on there and people made noise all night, it was so loud that you could actually think they were right in front of our door! The two other nights we stayed were quiet.  , France ()
4  Great Hostel Six nights, five days in San Francisco. We stayed in a four bed dorm and enjoyed our time at the hostel. Clean rooms and facilities. Big Kitchen, full equipped "Cinema," Common Room with pool and video games, internet room and laundry are located downstairs, therefore the other levels are reserved for the rooms. Friendly staff and all evening activities. The hostel also offers tours around San Francisco. It is close to Market Street, China Town, and Union Square (walking distance). I would recommend this hostel.  , German ()
4  Very, very good We stayed here for four nights in a four-dorm room. The staff is really nice, the kitchen really big, and enough space in the fridge. Great night activities, clean rooms, and a great location make this hostel a nice place to stay.  , german ()
4  Quaint Hostel could use some work, and a really good cleaning. Better breakfasts, people! Nonetheless, such a great deal to be in the centre of a very expensive city. Lots of screaming and yelling at night, from the street but that is the character.  , Canada ()
3  Ok but noisy This is a good hostel with lots of activities organised. My friend and I stayed in a private two-bed room. It had its own sink, a desk, and television, which was cool. It was on the ground floor, though, at the top of the stairs leading to the common area. This made it very noisy when people would stay up until 3 a.m. playing really loud music. The hostel was relatively clean and the staff were friendly. It's still undergoing refurbishment so some bits round the computers and kitchen aren't at their best. The location is fine but if you take a wrong turn you end up in the Tenderloin pretty quickly. If you want to get to Market Street, walk down to Union Square then turn right.  , England ()
