The Spa Lodge is a small, friendly hostel located in a central location in Rotorua. From the outside, it looks a little rundown and it's hard to see the hostel sign from the street, so keep a good eye out. There is twenty-four hour access to the hostel, but you must check in before reception closes around 8 unless you've made previous arrangements.
The hostel also boasts its own natural hot spring that has limited hours -- so make sure you check them before heading to the spa. The hostel itself has two separate buildings. Both are bright and open. While rooms don't have individual air conditioning units, there are windows that can be left open, as the area is relatively safe. Dorm room doors are quite squeaky and loud so bring some WD-40. Beds are your regular hostel foam mattresses and metal bunk frame. Linens are not provided, so bring your own or be ready to cough up a couple extra bucks for the top-sheet.
There are quite a few bathrooms available for use with more than enough showers. There are two kitchen areas both well equipped and clean. The hostel is kept immaculate by the hard working hostel staff on a daily basis. There are two common areas that are open and comfortable. Internet is available for purchase from the front desk, however, the computers are slow and old also they don't offer the usage of a USB port for uploading pictures.
There are a couple of free parking spots just outside of the hostel, and pay parking along the front of the hostel. Across the street there is free parking with no time limit, however, it can be difficult to find a parking space. There are big lot shops right across the street (be careful not to park in the parking lot over night as it is monitored by the police) as well a independent shops all around the area. The hostel staff are friendly and offer a lot of advice on things to do around the hostel and Rotorua.
