5  Great people, safe environment, excellent location I love this hostel, one of the best I've ever stayed at! I stayed here 3 times in a trip, and was very pleased with the accommodations each time. The owner is very friendly, I felt very safe in the building, the downstairs kitchen and lounge area is a great place to meet people, and the bathrooms and bedrooms are great and clean. It's the perfect walking distance from downtown, but not on a super busy street that is noisy at night. Free internet is always a plus too. I will 100% stay here next time I'm in the area!  , USA ()
1  Filthy, pooly staffed, and rude. The guy running the door when I called could not give me directions to the hostel from what turned out to be just 2 miles away. When I showed up, he made me wait 30 minutes while he tried to sell a package a previous guest had left behind the day before. Then, he sold me a bed in a room with no empty beds (not to mention the place is absolutely filthy). When I asked for my money back, the man at the desk called me an asshole. Unbelievable. It then took him 30 minutes to figure out how to refund my money. As a side note, the woman working their sister hostel in Girdwood was AMAZING and helped me fix the whole situation.  ()
4  In general a pretty good hostel Nice people, nice building, nice location although I was scared the first time walking around (summer is fine with many hours of light). Just wish they had more showers. Needed to wait a while to get shower during the two days I was around. The bedroom I stayed was not that clean -- cleaning the floor and leaving the windows open in a hot day would make a good difference. I would stay there again. Probably was the best choice in downtown.  , Canada ()
5  Best hostel in Anchorage, hands down! The hostel is within walking distance of downtown, with two bars in close proximity. It is far enough away though that you don't get any seedy drunk characters hanging around. Getting to the supermarket/walmart/barnes&noble means walking to downtown and getting a bus, but to me that was no big deal. The whole place is new and very clean. Is is gradually being built up with artworks on the walls and most floors have already been painted/decorated. You can see that it's still having it's finishing touches added but that doesn't detract, if anything it makes it all the more obvious how professional and how dedicated the owners/staff are to making the hostel the best it can be. The kitchen is well equipped and there is a big screen TV (with cable) and a foosball table in the common room in the basement. It's a real community atmosphere with a weekly dinner that everybody participates in and enjoys. Rooms are sparse, as are the bathrooms (no towel racks or benches -- sorely missed) but given the age of the hostel (been open only five months!) it's probably just something that they are getting around to adding in. They have a keycard system so you need to swipe in to get into the building, and into your room-which makes you feel very safe and secure inside. Lockers are also provided in the rooms. I couldn't fit my 75L pack in there but it didn't matter so much because all my valuables could be fit in there and my pack could be chained to the bed. I can't stress how much I enjoyed staying here and what a great setup they have. As time goes on I hope it stays this way! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hostel to anybody traveling to Anchorage.  , Australia ()
