Disgusting, every service was either skimped on or not available.
Single rooms are advertised with fridges but they don't come with them at all, I was put in a shoe box with a bunk bed, you have no ability to change the air conditioner settings or even turn it on or off when you want because they will not provide a remote to every room, serious mold problem developing near the air conditioner and the window had no lock. Kitchen area was a joke, filthy, cramped and under equipped, it lacks even the kitchen basics. Breakfast was the cheapest stuff they can buy obviously. I'm not even sure if it was coffee that I drank and the bread was thawed out semi-stale wholemeal home-brand rubbish, it appeared that they had a deal to take what the supermarkets didn't sell after 2 days at a discount because paying $1 a loaf is far too much. If you are going on a trip and have to leave before 7am you will miss out on breakfast. The pool was chest deep and in need of repair, it was rarely in use because of how small it is and how little point there is using it. The bar opens when if feels like not when posted and the bar owners play some rubbish asian pop music channel far too loud and then scream at each other over it in their own language, if that was tolerable unfortunately the drink selection lets it down as well as none of the beers they sell are worth drinking, there is no BYO in this place so you either have to be sneaky or go elsewhere to relax with a drink. Shower plumbing is terrible, it either has no pressure or keeps fluctuating between hot and cold, privacy is an issue and they aren't clean at all. Some staff are very helpful, others are next to useless, it took 6 emails and 2 phone calls to book a tour advertised on their website and then they overcharged me for it. Lastly, on checkout I was handed my key deposit of $20 back in $1 coins. Thanks for nothing BHA.
Worst Hotel I've Ever Stayed In (when considering the price)
More expensive than EVERY other hostel in Cairns, with a bad kitchen (outside with all the bugs and birds), a broken pool table, tiny swimming pool, cramped rooms, tiny, dirty shared bathroom between up to 20 people. The brochure is a TOTAL JOKE, and the Drop Zone bar that is advertised is a Gay Bar, and a quiet and dismal one at that!!!! The entire budget has gone on advertising that place, DON'T STAY THERE. DON'T, DON'T, DON'T!
Bohemia Central Accommodation is pretty average. It doesn't offer anything special -- a place to sleep and a bar downstairs. The atmosphere is quiet and almost lethargic. There doesn't seem to be much going on. Even during the busy season the whole place seems empty. The Location Bohemia Central is located in Cairns CBD, halfway between the Centrepoint shopping mall and the Esplanade. The location is good but not excellent. There are many hostels in this area and Bohemia Central happens to be an old house with poor insulation, so one can hear the traffic all day long. It's within minutes' walk away from the mall, supermarkets, and waterfront and close to the train station. Rooms and Bathrooms Bohemia Central offers singles, twins, and doubles as well as four- and six-bed dorms. Rooms are very plain and the whole building consists of at least three different houses. The older parts are noisy, the walls are thin -- you can hear both the neighbours and the outside traffic, which is annoying. The rooms have only beds (no lockers) and don't seem to be very clean. Bathrooms are a little bit better, although they are scattered all over the three houses. Common Spaces The common spaces include TV room, kitchen, pool, bar, cafe, and joint internet area/reception. In the evening you can purchase an meal from the bar downstairs or try cooking yourself. The kitchen is tiny and ill-equipped. A deposit is required for cutlery and there are only two fridges for all guests. The TV room isn't very enticing either. Mostly people are either on the sunbeds by the pool after a night out or drinking more at the bar. During the low season reception/cafe area is open only in the mornings and evenings. The reception acts also as a travel agency. Summary Bohemia Central is thirteen in a dozen. The promotional pictures depict the two areas in the building that have been recently renovated and the rest is rundown. Dorm rooms are certainly not worth the money, kitchen isn't really suitable for cooking -- lacking in space, crockery, and facilities -- and the lack of common space for daytime activities make it difficult to get to know other people. Good for emergencies if you can't find anything else, but we wouldn't return here.
