The Hostelz.com Review
HI - Ljubljana - Hostel Park is situated in the upper floors of Hotel Park but uses the hotel's reception and other public facilities. It has both dorms and private doubles in the hostel section.

The Location

The hotel is situated on a leafy side street in the east of the centre. It’s a ten-minute walk along Trubarjeva to the Triple Bridge, the heart of the city. Along the way there are plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants. It’s a ten-minute walk to the train and bus stations and the hotel has plenty of its own car parking space.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Dorm rooms vary in capacity and are colourful, with multiple bunks beds. We were pleased to see there are two doors in the private double room, with the second effectively forming a lobby, which we hoped would reduce any noise in the corridor. In the end there was virtually no noise at all, though whether this was due to the double door arrangement is anyone’s guess. We were so tired, we could have slept through an earthquake that night. There are two single beds in the room as well as a clothes hanging area between the two doors. A television set is in the corner on a desk. It is in such a position that it can't really be seen from the bed further away from it. As well as not having an ensuite, the cheaper hostel rooms do not have a television. There are no reading lamps, something we find disappointing.

The ensuite is perfectly fine; complimentary soaps and shower gels are supplied and the towels are a reasonable size. The shower is easy to operate and the water is hot at all times. The lighting is good in the bathroom, as is the ventilation -- you don't have to contend with annoying, steamed-up mirrors.

Common Spaces

Hostel residents can use any of the hotel facilities, some of which are free while others need to be paid for. While the public areas have Wi-Fi coverage, there are also computers with internet access for those guests who haven’t brought computers with them. There are laundry facilities that are available to guests in both the hostel and the hotel but they are really intended for hostel guests. On the top floor is "Meeting Point," which is a communal area with a television and sitting area intended for hostel guests. The hotel has a restaurant and bar, which are open to guests and non-guests alike.

The lifts are tiny and can only really comfortably hold two people with luggage, but we never had to wait long. The corridors are kept in darkness until the lights are switched on -- we had to grope around in the dark to find the switch. Even once the switched is flicked, it still takes a few seconds for the light to come on.

Summary

HI - Ljubljana - Hostel Park offers reasonable value given that this is a capital city; certainly the double rooms would be more aptly described as a budget hotel. The dorms are colourful and spacious, and while they are not the cheapest in town, they are much quieter than those right in the centre.

HI - Ljubljana - Hostel Park Reviews from the Web
Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
2  Not so good. ok, so the good points are that there's free internet and they provide you with a towel and some shampoo samples, the location isn't bad. they don't, however, provide you with breakfast, it actually costs 5 Euros. there is no kitchen and the common area is old, dark, and smoky. there is no atmosphere in this place and the staff kind of suck. we ended up looking for other accommodation for our stay in ljubljana, so that should tell ya something.  , Canada ()
1  Awful Hostel Park is awful -- crumbling, unfriendly, overpriced. The location is fine but easily bettered and the atmosphere is stale and unwelcoming. The staff are passable but tend to be dour and unhelpful. None of the usual benefits of hostel traveling (meeting people, shared spaces, travel tips). One to avoid. (Also, book with caution -- we booked a double room with private bathroom and got four bunks and a toilet.)  , Australia ()
