The Hostelz.com Review
Ashfield House is located in the heart of Dublin, just minutes walk from O'Connor Street, Trinity College, and Temple Bar. Additionally, it is on or nearby several bus routes making train station, bus station, and airport access quite simple. The friendly staff are happy to help plan your stay and the reception area offers a wide range of information pamphlets on both Dublin and Ireland.

Rooms are available in anything from two-person up to eight- to ten-person dorms. The rooms, while small and crowded, have an en-suite toilet/sink/shower. Hot water is sometimes hard to come by, however shower pressure is great. There is not much space for luggage, let alone lockers in the rooms. Some coin-operated lockers are available for hire on the main floor. There is also a luggage storage room provided for use.

The large sitting area on the main floor has a television and several comfy couches for relaxing. There are a couple of computers for internet use as well as space to use your own with wireless internet. The large kitchen offers lots of space for multiple people to cook simultaneously and is quite well equipped. It is cleaned daily after the free breakfast provided each morning. You can also have your laundry washed and dried by the staff for a small price.

While friendly staff and a central location certainly make this an enjoyable hostel to stay at, prices per room can jump depending on whether it is a weeknight or weekend, if it is a bank holiday, or if there is a rugby match in town.

5 Excellent atmosphere. Great staff. Really good breakfast in the morning. Good Kitchen and large fridge for cooking in Dublin where eating out is filthy expensive.   — Customer review (2011-11-22) Hostelbookers

4 The guy who worked there is super nice- one of the nicest people that I have come across in the accommodation industry. Nice place overall. Good value for money. Car parking difficult to find. Location is nice but not that central.   — James Fitzgerald (2010-05-13) Hostelbookers
5 people were really nice, the breakfast really good, it was a really good value for money. perfect place to stay few days in dublin.   — bachet lauriane (2009-11-16) Hostelbookers
3 It was generally ok but the internet didnt work initially because staff wasnt aware that the wireless password had changed. They messed up my booking and I had to move rooms near the end of the stay. Staff didn't have change for cash payment either. Reception often not manned. TV signals from antenna in room are weak. Staff though was generally good and helpful though. While expensive for me thinking in terms of Canadian dollars, overall it's cheaper in a very very expensive city such as Dublin. Overall a decent place to stay and is recommended for those who don't mind being 15 minutes away from the city centre.   — JERROLD WARD (2009-10-18) Hostelbookers
4 the room was very comfortable, clean and romantic. The bathroom was too small, good for a short stay. People have been very friendly!   — Anonymous (2009-10-06) Hostelbookers

1  Poor -- Do not stay here The hostel is dirty with poor security, they also charged me an extra 30 euros a month after i stayed here and when i called to inquire about it they just kept telling me to call back. I would not recommend staying here.  , Canadian ()
1  Don't stay here unless your only requirements are "cheap" and "central." It's REALLY DIRTY, and security is AWFUL — no lockable cupboards (except tiny ones in reception that cost money), and I was in the dorm room (REALLY CRAMPED) which has no lock on the door, so literally anyone in the hostel can go in there. Plus the reception staff hardly ever ask for your pass, so pretty much anyone can walk in off the street. The staff are really UNFRIENDLY too, as are most of the other guests — not recommended for individual travelers. And the first night there was a REALLY NOISY school group, screaming/running around/banging on doors till all hours!! BRING EARPLUGS!! Oh, and the breakfast rolls are stale. And for some reason, the lights didn't work during the day, so I couldn't use the bathroom. The whole place is in dire need of redecoration.  ()
5  Fantastic location — minutes from Temple Bar and Trinity College. Getting to the Guinness tour is a nice walk along the Liffey. I met some great people while staying here last year, including some of the staff! I had hoped to get back here, but didn't quite make it. I would recommend this hostel to anyone!  ()
4  Excellent location, and the en suite shower was great, especially if you're sharing the room with friends. The metal bunks were a bit squeaky but comfortable, and the bedrooms were quite small but some had a lovely view over the street. The kitchen area was large and the staff were friendly.  ()
2  The in-room bathrooms are nice but the facilities there are not great. And not only did the bathroom door not lock but it didn't even really shut. The morning staff were great and helpful and seemed to care about issues you bring to them. The same is not true of the afternoon and evening staff, who were distinctively not helpful—- you definitely felt like you were bothering them if you asked even the simplest question. There was a very creepy guy staying in our room and little to nothing was done about him. There is really no common area and the staff controls what you watch on the TV. The breakfast and showers and beds were above average, which somewhat made up for the rest of the downfalls here. The location is great, which also makes things a little better.  ()
4  What's great about this hostel: staff and management are very helpful; it's in the center of Dublin, and I really mean center; and it has good budget accommodation rates for long stays. What's not great: this hostel is not brand new, so don't expect a luxury house, but I can assure you (I've been there one month and a half) this is a good choice of hostel and I can really recommend it.  ()
3  Maybe this hostel is not very new, but the management is great, and helpful. If you plan to move to Ireland for work, I suggest this hostel because they have good budget accommodation rates, kitchen facilities, and all the bedrooms are en suite. As I already said, the management is very great, young and helpful. Ask at reception for any information you need. They'll certainly give you help.  ()
3  This place has a central location, friendly staff, and the kitchen and dining area are clean. But the room was small, old and not very clean. Anyway, it was not too bad for few days.  ()
4  Very central location! I arrived late and checked out early, so I didn't get to experience much of this hostel. The staff were friendly, though. We were 6 people in a room with a shared toilet/shower.  ()
4  This hostel was very nice, and the staff were friendly. The rooms were a good size, but there was only one shower for the twelve people in our room. It has the best location in Dublin. It is in the middle of the Temple Bar area, and so close to everything. The included breakfast is only a croissant and some coffee, but it was a great place to stay.  ()
4  This is an awesome hostel. It is clean, safe, and the staff are really cool. The hostel is very laid-back and it is incredibly well located. All the facilities are good and you can use them whenever. The kitchen is spacious and well equipped. I would definitely recommend this to anybody: it is cheap and very very good.  ()
4  Nice rooms, superb location, friendly staff and good atmosphere! I will definitely go back.  ()
4  Quite a good hostel. Dorms, kitchen and dining area were clean. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is minimal. Location is excellent though. Minutes from Temple Bar area and Trinity College. Better location compared to hostels over at Lower Gardiner Street. Downside is that since it's so close to Temple Bar, you may be able to hear the pounding dance music (though muffled and soft) in some of the dorm rooms.  ()
