The Trans-Siberian Hostel in Moscow is a great place to stay some nights before you start your Trans-Siberian trip.
The Location
Even though a bit tricky to find, with no signs, the hostel is in a really good location. The metro is just a five-minute walk away and just across the street you find a supermarket, perfect for stocking up.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There is only one dorm room and two double rooms, which makes it easy to get to know the other travelers staying the night. It's also a good reason to book in advance to make sure there are places left. The kitchen can be a bit small at times but it's cozy and a great place for spending some time with the other travelers over a free cup of tea.
Both toilets feel clean and fresh. In the bigger one, there is a washing machine free of charge to use, and you may also find one in the kitchen. The rooms have lockers that are also free.
Common Spaces
The beds are really comfortable and the dorm room has many electrical sockets where you can recharge your phones and iPods. There is a computer with internet connection for your disposal, or if you have a laptop there is free Wi-Fi connection. Ask the staff for the password. There are some books about Russia next to the computer that you can borrow.
Summary
We really enjoyed our stay at the Trans Siberian Hostel and we specially recommend it to people who are going on the Trans-Siberian Railway. This is a great place to meet other people going the same way.
