Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
Pretty poor + disappointing their website displays rooms and the main building, which is reasonably impressive, but our group was allocated into a low rise, run down annex to the main CISP building. Rooms were dirty, bedding was stained and worn, only beds at floor height were made, no bunks were made up or made daily, towels very thin and worn, shower tiling cracked and leaking onto the rest of the floor 24/7. towels provided did not even contain the water flow from the shower, let along use by guests. no power point in vanity (only shaver point), no mirror in room other than bathroom, lights in bathroom use sensors and turn off every 29 seconds, which means guests shower in the dark. Staff at Front Desk very unhelpful and dismissive. one side of this annex backs onto public pool which allows naked swimming at least 3 nights a week -- noise from pool and freeway can also be very offputting when trying to sleep. Dining room staff are most impressive, but everything else lets this facility down severely. Don't waste your time or money on this hostel. Pay a little more, stay a little closer to the city (this is about 40+ min out by train) and you won't regret your stay in Paris. — Aussie , Australia (2011-10-31)
Worst hostel I've ever stayed in Hotel Kellerman looks like a cross between a dilapidated hospital and a prisoner of war camp. I went there with my school in Feb. 2010, and it disappointed in pretty much every meaning of the word. Not only did it look horrific, but it was also very far away from the centre. For anyone who's been to London, I'd say the equivalent of Woolwich. There is nothing of interest anywhere near the hostel besides a road and metro station. The area was horrible; a girl in my class got into an argument with some local girls and they stood outside the hostel for a good 1/2 hour waiting to attack her, until the police were called. The breakfast was alright (they did croissants), but the rooms were horrible. The sheet itched so much I had to take it off the bed, the beds were so crammed together that there was hardly any floorspace. Bars on the window. No ladder up to the top bunks, so it hurts your feet when you climb up. Mixed-sex toilets. Would be alright if they'd had toilet seats. Hotel had chunks falling off the wall, and heating pipes often exposed. Lock on the door either dodgy or I didn't lock it properly. Either way it meant that some boys-not from our party- apparently came into our room and rummaged around our stuff (nothing stolen, which indicates weird motive). Same boys also tried to ply girls (15/16 yr old) from the school with vodka. Desk staff rude and always looked for faults in peoples' French (including genders). Apparently said 'good riddance' when we left (after cowering in a room in the back for 2 hours while the thug-situation was sorted before we got on our coach). Overall, this place beats every other cheap hostel I've been to (incl. one with a hole in the ground between the room and bathroom) as the worst hostel ever. — Disappointed Schoolchild , English (2011-01-14)

its boring the place externally looks like your walking into some kind of convention show room. i almost told the cab driver to keep going. inside is clearly an old hospital. its creepy. not a place to meet people at all. breaky was good, but this place is seriously no fun s travellers i dont recommend it. but on the up side it was very clean and tidy. no internet. — blackie , australian (2008-11-12)

I was a recent guest (5/25/06 to 5/28/06) of the Maurice Ravel center. The accomodations were clean, comfortable, quiet, and the services were hospitable and professional. I have always purposely avoided staying in hostels, but at least as far as this center is concerned, my fears were unfounded. I would stay here again without hesitation. — Byron Johnson (2006-06-05)
Ok. I stayed here for five nights. Breakfast was pretty good compared to other hostels. Fresh crossaints and baguettes daily. Beware of the cranky kitchen cooks. However, perhaps some people forgot to mention that the building is falling apart, damn near condemned. One of the rooms I stayed in had bugs, which during the night found their way to my bed. However, once I moved to another room I did not have this problem. Nonetheless, it was disturbing. The staff at the receptionist desk were amazing. Very helpful and nice, going out of their way to accommodate you. The location of the Kellerman center is very far from the city in gerneral. Its a twenty-five to forty-five minute ride by metro to some of the more popular locations. There is a curfew but its not inforced, good luck finding a way back after 12:30 because walking is out of the question and a cab to this location will cost you. Absolutely dead in the department of partying, unless you wanna hang out with some of the school groups. — Zarielle (2006-04-23)

Well ive just stayed at this Hostel with my whole year group at college. my friends and i stayed for 5 days for our photography project, and i was really surprised at how lovely it was to stay there. i never knew how pleasent a hostel would be to stay in. i would love to go again, it was so easy to get all over paris as the metro wasn't a long walk away, and so got to take many photo's and saw some brillient sites - The Eiffel Tower! — Jessica (2006-02-02)
Staffs at reception are not so bad, and some are nice and friendly indeed. BUT No refund of deposit in any circumstances, so be careful!! Occasionally we have to hear announcements which call someone (or often just giggling and laughing of cleaning people(?)), which are very startling and very annoying. Better to choose this hostel, at last minute, only when you do not have any other choices. I stayed here three times, but will no more. — disappointed (2006-01-23)

I stayed at Maurice Ravel Branch for 2 weeks back in May 1971 - and loved it. Had so much fun with the staff. Food was great. The whole trip to Paris is one of my favourite memories. From the pics on the site, it doesn't look like it has changed much. Had a lot of fun at the pool. — Nancy (2005-12-12)

It was a comfy experience in that hostel. We stayed at the Maurice Ravel branch. The decor doesn't even look like a hostel. It looked so hotel-ish from the exterior. Well we checked in around 1:30 a.m. and were greeted with a simply rude staff person. I guessed he was already sleeping and we woke him up as he had to check us into our rooms. He was showing attitude, pulled a long face and threw his calculator, clearly showing his displeasure. Anyway, we stayed in an eight-bed room on the first night. It was sufficient and clean. Subsequent nights we were in private rooms of five beds when we had only three people with us. Still, we had our private room with showers attached to it. Breakfast was really good, bread, ham, egg, cheese, cornflakes, milk, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. The only bad point is that they serve the same old breakfast every single day. But what more can you ask, for the price you pay? I should be thankful that brekkie was provided. There were toilets everywhere and it was real clean.
Sadly, there was a bad episode. My sis left something behind at that hostel and had to go back to retrieve it when we already arrived in Amsterdam, and she stayed there for a night with no advance booking. So one of the staff tried to exploit her by charging her over 30 euro dollars for a single night when we paid 18.50 euro the previous nights. So clearly, it was ridiculous!!! But overall, it was a wonderful experience. — Wendy Seraph (2005-11-09)

I am an older lady and I stayed for two nights in a single room. I was impressed by its cleanliness and basic comfort. I was on the 10th floor, the lifts were good and as the window opened wide I could keep the room airy. I'd advise ear plugs if sleeping with the window open because traffic can be noisy. Breakfast was plentiful with more choice than I expected. Terrific value in a capital city. — Patricia (2005-11-01)

The breakfast is good and it's easy to get to a lot of major destinations from the Metro stop. I stayed there when it was very hot in Paris and of course there was no air conditioner so the room was extremely stuffy (the window wouldn't open). But you shouldn't spend much time in your room anyway. Overall, it's good for a cheap bed, shower, and breakfast. — Laura (2005-06-26)

Hey!! I came all the way from Qatar to Paris and I had the time of my life at this place. It was quiet. Me and my group liked the place; it felt like home. ;) I want to go back. If I ever go back to Paris I would come and stay at this hostel, I liked it so much. I would advise people to stay here, there's a park behind it and you can get through Paris easily. You hear a lot of ambulances passing by. I love Paris people. — Fahima Dagher (2005-06-19)

Clean, quiet place with acceptable fees, plus a big breakfast. I suggest it! — Reza (2005-04-30)

I stayed in this hostel in '99; it was great! I am very much looking forward to another stay in Paris in '05 and will gladly stay at the CISP. It provides all that one needs while in Paris, clean room, daily attendant service for the room, breakfast, and a private bath in a lot of the rooms. With so much to see and do in Paris, you don't spend much time in a room but to sleep and shower. Perfect! — Pete Anonymous (2004-12-07)

I have known the CISP for nearly ten years now, and I've spent several stays there. My French teacher led us to this nice hotel in Paris when we were on our pupil-exchange trip in France in 1995. A few months afterwards I traveled there with my family, because it impressed me so much when I was there for the first time. It's clean and cheap — so what else would anyone expect from a hotel in the metropolitan Paris — especially if you plan a trip with your whole family!! — Oliver Schwietert, Oldenburg/Germany (2004-11-29)
