HI - Cork International - Cork City Hostel

The dorms do get crowded. The attached showers with a large gap under the door do not make for a sleep in (farts and all) and the plumbing (like in so many places in Ireland) has room for improvement. Irish breakfast at Euro 6.50. Staff do their job -- that's it. Your average YHA hostel. (A working knowledge of Eastern European languages helps, in case you have enquiries beyond the usual.) No shops, food stores, or take-aways nearby. On a busy road. If you follow their directions, the bus drivers will drop you off half a mile down the street (which seems to be one row of "B and Bs"). Ask for the "second stop on Western Road" (coming from city centre) and you are right outside.

This is a low budget place to stay. Its about £12 GBP or Euro15 per night. It is friendly in the main. The communal breakfast room and lounge are airy and pleasant. There is a TV lounge with three internet PCs, which we found useful. Internet access costs Euro2 for 40 minutes. The rooms do need some tender loving care, we were a party of twenty plus so I did get round to seeing a lot of them. There are bunk beds throughout so bear this in mind if you have elderly travellers with you. The en suite was very sixties, with poor quality tiling and a sprinkling of water most of the time, and with space a premium, you'll find yourself showering next to the WC, rather like on a ferry. It is right on the No. 8 bus route which takes you into town in a few minutes for Euro1.40 and saves a lot of hassle after a few pints of Guinness in the city. Bus services are very regular. Or you can walk in along the river which is quite pleasant in about fifteen or twenty minutes. There is a nice student bar called the Western Star about one hundred metres from the front door, so you don't have to go into town to socialise. Would I stay there again? Well if I was looking at the lowest cost (in my case for a large sports team tour) then yes, but if I could afford to spend a bit more I would look elsewhere. Got caught out on the cereals breakfast which staff said was included (extra for a fry up), only to find that Head Office took another £250 from my debit card later on! Not a nice trick.

It is about a 10 minute walk from downtown, and about a 20 min walk from the train station. The rooms are ok; there is a large common area, dining room, and a kitchen. This is more than adequate for a decent stay in the area.

It's a great place to stay where u can meet lots of young people coming from everywhere in the world! It's near the centre and at only 2 minutes from the University!
