Good hostel with a few little issues Nice hostel. Excellent location in an interesting neighborhood close to good grocery stores, restaurants, a microbrewery and a riverfront park. Courteous staff with prompt service. Main location is relatively quiet though a train goes by with some regularity. I slept through it. The annex is closer to the train tracks and I've heard guests and residents there say it's a lot harder to sleep there. The only issues were: My reservations, which I made online, did not match what was in the hostel's computer system, and I did not wind up getting the type of room I booked online. Luckily, they worked things out and I got a room at all. Some folks who arrived after me were not so lucky. I suggest contacting the hostel directly in advance to confirm you have the room and location you think you reserved. The staff and their friends hang out at the main location when not working (apparently staff live at the hostel) so it can get congested, especially the kitchen, and many of them smoke outside in the garden. They have only one kitchen with one stove, and it can be hard to get stove space with the many staff cooking their food. Several private rooms are located off of a dorm so they are not as quiet as a typical private bedroom and the private rate seems a bit unfair. Contact the hostel to make sure you know what you're reserving. — Anonymous , USA (2011-05-03)

Comfortable, but noisy Although the hostel was nice, and had many amenities, my stay there was not restful. People were talking loudly outside of my room late into the night. I also heard a lot of doors being slammed around the place. Furthermore, it isn't in a very nice neighborhood, and the wifi didn't work. I was planning to stay there for several nights, but after my first night there, I decided to get a motel room in town, which was cheaper and much more comfortable and quiet. — Anonymous , United States (2011-01-19)

Enjoyed my stay I had planned on renting a private room. The lady at the desk recommended a 2 person dorm, for $27 a night. I was in there by myself, which was great. The kitchen was large and well stocked. They serve a small breakfast and coffee. The location was very safe, and near some cool bars and a natural foods market. They have a projection tv with tons of free movies, and a large backyard. The only downside is the all day lockout, if you're staying more than one night. — Jack Zoff , Chicago, USA (2010-04-20)

Well run, clean The Eugene hostel was well managed and organized. Free internet and Wi-Fi access, pancakes, and coffee available in the morning, well-labeled kitchen. At first I was unsure whether my sheets were fresh, but the spotless kitchen and bathrooms gave me a comfort level. The Annex a few blocks away has space for camping, a fun porch for folks to hang out. The main building had a music performance one evening. Access late at night by code, so the area had a safe feel. Several restaurants, coffee shops, and a grocery are only a few blocks away. Nice, welcoming feel. — TexasDoug , USA (2009-06-30)

Great Clean, great staff, conveniently located. Round the corner from plenty of live music at Sam Bond's Garage -- weekdays as well as weekends. A few blocks from the Red Apple supermarket. A short walk to downtown Eugene for clubs, art galleries, and both Amtrak and greyhound stations. A smaller hostel, it has a cozy feel. I have been twice, and will go back again some day. — randi , USA (2009-04-15)

Sweet home away from home Great place; excellent, fun-loving, knowledgeable staff. Musicians will be pleasantly surprised with the special space for practice. Free movies; well-stocked kitchen area; nice library; and professional, hospitable folk. Excellent location for access to Eugene's nightlife. — don , usa (2009-03-16)

Peaceful, cozy Having stayed at only a few hostels (and many hotels and motels), I must say that this was the most pleasant experience I've had. If you are lucky enough to stay here, then you are in Eugene, OR, what I believe to be the most diverse, small city in America. Whether sports, nightlife, music, hiking, biking, or even extreme outdoors, this place offers it. And if reading a book, quietly, under a shady tree while the kids watch TV is your gig, then this is it. The place was spotless! The kitchen caters to veggies and carnivores alike. The bed was comfortable, the sleep was peaceful, the staff was great. And if you're lucky enough to meet the manager/owner, ask him if he will play a tune for you. — Chuck , USA (2008-11-19)

Fantastic! My girlfriend and I absolutely loved this place. The hostel is close to downtown and is in a quaint neighborhood with a very distinct character. I strongly suggest planning to visit during the last Friday of the month, as there is an Art Walk in this neighborhood, and things get a bit interesting. The staff are fantastic and courteous. As an added bonus, the hostel is pet friendly as well. — Ian Schneider , United States (2008-11-04)

Really Wonderful We so enjoyed our stay here! It was clean, comfortable, and welcoming! Walking distance to many nifty places -- my only caution is for those of us that love to look around while walking, be aware of the sidewalks! They're dangerous! The staff was amazing and so nurturing. The other guests were interesting and friendly. I recommend it to anyone. — Sandi & Sonja , US - Seattle (2008-10-10)

Great place to stay, friendly people, very comfortable, and clean. Actually this was my first stay at a Hostel and I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was a great experience! Everyone was awesome and I definitely enjoyed my Eugene experience, and the Whitaker Block Party was amazing. The neighborhood is unique and loaded with a lot of talented, artistic, and friendly individuals. — Patra , USA (2008-08-22)

What a great place. Feels like home! I've stayed at about fifteen hostels around the world, and by far this one is tops. I love, love, love the atmosphere. My favorite place to stay in Oregon! — Lorin Thwaits , USA (2008-08-12)

One of the best hostels i have stayed in. Friendly staff. Great Backyard. The hostel has a ranch home feel. Very friendly and the place is kept clean. — Shawn Trehugger Lewis , Michigan (US) (2008-04-03)

Outstanding! I recently spent 2 nights, in the Art Gallery. A private room at the hostel.
The bed was more comfortable than most hotels. The private bathroom, really helped, since I spent 2 days on the Amtrak. For $40 a night, including breakfast, I felt like, it was actually underpriced. Mac, Chuck and Rebecca went out of their way, to make me feel comfortable. They have a large backyard, a big screen movie room, and a friendly dog. The natural food market, and Sam Bond's, a terrific blues bar are right down the street. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Eugene. — John , USA (2007-11-28)

Clean, comfortable place with a staff concerned about your experience The minute I walked through the door I could tell the hostel was the place to be. It is clean, the staff was on top of it, the registration system is online -- so no confusion as to who I was. Safe parking is available outside, the hostel is walking distance to the university or an easy bus connection. The rooms are clean and spacious and if you want to have your own space the hostel offers private rooms. The breakfast provided is fresh fruit, fresh bagels, and ground coffee; the movie room is state of the art; the bathrooms have hot water; laundry is available; and they offer a wireless connection. Great alternative to home! — Crystal Mann , Canada (2007-08-18)
The good reviews of this hostel were posted by females. The room and amenities on their floor are far superior; private bathroom, balcony and a much larger room. The male dorm is cramped with 3 bunk beds packed closely together in a tiny room with no bathroom or window for $22 a night. Strangely, that room was full when I arrived, so I opted for a private room. Chuck, the manager, was very friendly and I stayed in the Art Room, which was very nice and had a private bathroom for $44. The hostel has a large backyard and a nice common room and kitchen with a free light breakfast. The immediate block is quiet, but if you are walking from the amtrak or greyhound station be careful after dark, because you will pass through Eugene's only dangerous neighborhood.
The house itself and private room easily deserve 3 stars; but the men's dorm for $22 is a ripoff. I've stayed at the other hostel and even with the crummy men's dorm; this place is still a better option. Obviously, if you're a girl, this place is great. — Josh , USA (2007-04-15)
