The Hostelz.com Review
Hostel Giraffe is a new hostel -- it opened at the beginning of summer 2006. Consistently ranked in the top hostels of Krakow, it surely lives up to its hype. Owned by two couples, it is a warm and inviting hostel that we highly recommend.

Each guest has her own locker, free laundry, several computers with free Internet, wireless Internet, a full-service bar, many many boardgames, a wide selection of movies on the big screen, decent (if small and lacking some essential pots and pans) kitchen, and free breakfast.

The staff is extremely friendly, even willing to take you out on the town on their nights off or after their shifts end. They are knowledgeable and passionate about their town and able to help find the right tour, trip or bus for you. Just ask them and they will help!

The Giraffe's motto is "head and shoulders above the rest." With dorms beds at 50 zl, this motto is right on. We recommend this hostel for those looking for a more social Krakow experience -- there are plenty of travelers in this hostel dying to experience the legendary Krakow cellar bars and clubs. So quiet travelers, tired people, and families beware.

5 This hostel rocks!
This hostel is placed in a really good location, close both to the train station and the city center. The staff is really friendly and had a really nice time with them, cheap beer, free games, free pool, free foozball. there is a piano in the bar, and an acoustic guitar lacking the first string. Breakfast is fine apart from the fact that each day was placed in a different location. Great party atmosphere in the bar, staff will pick up anyone who wants to join some of them for partying every night. Toilets were pretty clean, and some of the showers were closed due to flooding in the pharmacy downstairs. The other ones were fine but one which was clogged almost all the time. At least there is enough space for a big person. Rooms were fairly clean. They even let us stay one extra night in the bar for free after we came back at 1 a.m. after losing our train to Prague!

2 Good Bar and Staff -- not much else going for it.
We got off on the wrong foot with this hostel from the start -- our room was not as we had booked, and they took no blame, instead blaming hostelz.com the whole time. They offered us a free beer for our troubles which was nice -- until we discovered that everyone gets one! The rooms are dirty -- stains on the walls and the floors. I suppose this doesn't really matter as the beds are clean, but the main problems lies in the bathrooms/toilet facilities. The showers were continually clogged, meaning you had to wait for the last persons dirty soapy and hair filled water to drain (took a while!) before you could get in, and then she same thing would happen. The Girls toilet was clogged most of the time, and the unisex toilet light didn't work for half of the stay. The sheets on the bed weren't fitted, which would have been fine but they didn't cover the whole bed regardless. The rooms are loud loud loud, and as the bar goes until about 8 a.m. (or whenever people leave!) you don't get a lot of sleep. Despite the bad points, the Bar does rock. Lots of fun to be had there in all honesty, and if you don't plan to sleep or shower then you may find this place pretty good. And the staff are nice. Be prepared for a party hostel (lots of fun) and dirty bathrooms (not so fun) and you should be fine. Oh and the breakfast is pretty crap -- thin toast in a toaster that flashes blue if you try to pop it up early -- there were signs about yogurt and muesli, but i saw no evidence of that!
