We stayed in a private room in late April 2006, and it was very good. If this is the direction YHA is headed with their new hostels, then they should be very successful. The architectural design was a pleasure to be in, and its overall eco-friendly design was professionally done, without preaching at you. The common areas are very large, with two complete kitchens on different levels. Its location a block from the main street is excellent -- very close to shops, eateries, and services, but without any traffic or late-night pedestrian noise. The hostel is very new, and needs a little time to develop its personality and character. Staff were friendly and helpful, and overall it was great value for money. Being a rural YHA it is not a party place -- more a quiet retreat style, where you can meet and chat to people from all over the world. Highly recommended, and a welcome adjunct to the Great Ocean Road.
