The Hostelz.com Review
The location of El Rincón Marino is the first thing you'll like -- it's close to the bus station. The second is the great decor -- it's got lots of fun nautical themes. After that you realise that the facilities are good, it´s clean, and the staff are helpful. And breakfast is included! What´s not to like?!
The Location
It's just a couple of blocks from the bus station and easily spotted from the street, there is no need for hailing of taxis or trying to work out the colectivos. Plenty of supermarkets are around and about, and the main square is eight minutes' walk. The hills of the old town and the seafront are also walkable, or there are plenty of buses running up and down the main thoroughfares from Vina del Mar to the port of Valparaiso at the far end of town, where the main lookout point is.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are all very airy with high ceilings and good decor, and the dorms are spacious, not crammed with beds. Some rooms face the street, but noise is no problem as it´s a quiet road. The bathrooms are good with a high cleanliness standard. There are communal bathrooms as well as some rooms with en-suite.
Common Spaces
The main common area, where breakfast is served, is on the ground floor with a massive skylight, and a wrought-iron circular staircase going up to the first floor. It has a large dining table and a Hi-Fi. Upstairs is the self-catering kitchen and another dining table, located on a sunny landing. The kitchen is well equipped, with gas stove and microwave, and plenty of crockery.
Summary
This hostel is great and provides good value too. The breakfast is plentiful, and often includes a wonderful fruit salad. Other hostels abound in the atmospheric hills of Valparaiso, but for ease of access from the bus terminal -- especially if you´re heading off early -- this hostel has everything a traveler needs.
