Bugis Backpackers is a functional hostel well-located in central Singapore. It is directly across the road from Bugis MRT station, one station away from City Hall hub and well within walking distance of major landmarks such as Raffles, Little India, Suntec City, and Simlim Square (the electronics market). You can get everywhere quickly and cheaply from this place.
Take EW line from Changi Airport and get off at EW2, or take a taxi to Rochor Road. Note that the hostel is located on the second floor of the terraced row of buildings known as Bugis Village and is inconspicuously marked so make sure you have the street address to find it.
Amenities are basic but generally clean. Dorm bedrooms -- one female and one mixed -- in bunk bed configurations sleep up to sixteen and are mercilessly hot and humid during the day, so don’t plan on hanging around the hostel. Air-conditioning runs effectively at night and makes sleeping pleasant. Lockers are provided within the dorms for additional security, but bring your own padlock or it will cost you to hire one.
The common room and kitchen have been recently updated and a toast and jam and tea and coffee breakfast is included with the bed. Toilets and bathrooms -- two of each for the dorms -- are serviceable but in short supply if the place is busy or fully booked. Self-service laundry and bag storage are also provided at additional cost.
There are probably better hostels in Singapore with a little more character and friendlier service but Bugis does the job in an efficient and direct manner.
