The Hostelz.com Review
Pere Tarrés Youth Hostel is very clean and tidy, a very nice place to stay. Staff are all friendly and helpful, know the city very well, and are willing to share everything with you.

The Location

The hostel is located close to the city centre, but the closest Metro station (Maria Cristina station on the green line) is as much as ten minutes away from the hostel. But the hostel is on a main street, so it is very easy to locate on foot. It may take a while if you are carrying bulky luggage as you will need to walk uphill from the Sants Station (where most of international trains arrive). The neighbourhood in which the hostel is located is safe and busy, but the region itself is not touristy so it may take a while for you to get to the "things to do" or a bar or a supermarket.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are clean and tidy. Individual in-room lockers are provided, but they aren't spacious enough to fit your luggage. You will be sleeping on a bunk bed. A bathroom and toilet (yes they are in separate rooms) are found in each dorm room. The toilet works perfectly, but there are neither door locks on the bathroom nor individual showers. You may need to communicate well with your roommates if people of the opposite sex wish to take a shower at the same time (there is enough space theoretically).

Common Spaces

There is a large cafeteria area, in which breakfast is served, and common area in which you can meet people. A kitchen is available for your use and computer and Wi-Fi are free in the common area. Also, this is an HI hostel and you should expect to see a few bunches of kids led by their teachers, or maybe other youth tours. But if you are looking for someone to go for a drink we're sure you can find one. We're not sure if you can find a place to drink yourself, but ask the staff and they will definitely give you some friendly advice, though.

Summary

In short, the property is a very safe, clean, and tidy place to stay. However, if you are looking for a fun, party hostel, this might not be the best choice.

4  Very good, modern, and clean hostel I stayed at this hostel twice, in 2006 and 2007. It's a very good hostel, it's very modern (it was built in 2005) and the rooms are very clean. Breakfast is ok, you have to queue up if you arrive at peak hours, but the queue doesn't take too much! The staff is friendly, they speak English quite well. At this hostel, you'll find people of a lot of nationalities and this is a positive feature, in my opinion. The hostel is not in the city centre, but it's well linked by metro (Maria Cristina stop). You have your personal locker, with your personal key and lockers are big enough to put a backpack inside (not every hostel has them!). I think Pere Tarres Hostel is a good value when staying in Barcelona.  , Italy ()
3  Modern hostel. Close to the Sants station but far from la rambla and the city center. You must be out of the rooms from 10am to 2pm for cleaning. So if you want to go to barcelona to party in la rambla and wake up late don't go there.  ()
4  The hostel is great! Clean, spacious, safe — you get a key to the locker next to your bed. In each room there is a shower and toilet. When you check in you get your linen, and breakfast is included in a price. It is easy to get to know other people so I would recommend it to all solo travelers. Besides that, they also have free Internet access. It takes you around 15 minutes by Metro to get to the center.  ()
