The Hostelz.com Review
Juraj's Hostel is a great hostel located near the central train station in Bratislava, Slovakia. It is open during the whole year. The price is one of the lowest in the city, you have all the basics that are to be expected from a hostel, and the place is remarkably clean.
The Location
The location is very good -- it is not so close but also not so far from the center of Bratislava. It takes about fifteen minutes on foot to reach the center and the major sites. If you come by train, it takes less than ten minutes on foot to get to the hostel. If you write the owner, it is very possible that he would come to meet you at the station. He also told us there are good transportation options to the airport. The hostel is within walking distance of the historical monuments in Bratislava like the National Council, the National Theater, the Castle in Bratislava, and many others.
Rooms and Bathrooms
At Juraj's Hostel, you can choose between dorms and private rooms; there are blankets and linens. The linens are replaced regularly and the rooms are very clean. The beds are very nice and the rooms are spacious. There are no lockers, but if you want, you can leave some of your baggage with the owner. The place is very clean and there are no exotic smells or stains anywhere.
There is one bathroom -- it is very clean, big, and modern but slippery. There is one shower and one toilet -- both quite nice. If the hostel is full, this is obviously not enough, although the hostel is small so it's probably not a big issue. And in the summer, there are many tourists going to Bratislava.
Common Spaces
Other amenities include a laundry room with a washing machine and dryer (all for free), a kitchen with plenty of stove eyes and a refrigerator, all kind of utensils, a great variety of free tea, and one old computer with internet access and Wi-Fi. You must check out by noon. One good thing is that there is no deposit. There is a big common room and a big yard where you can socialize. You can even go suntanning in the weather is good.
The atmosphere at Juraj's Hostel is friendly. The owner is a very talkative and funny guy -- he tries to help you in any way and he even let us use his printer. He likes to join the guests for a drink or a chat. The place feels more like a friend’s house than a hostel and has a nontraditional atmosphere for a hostel. We like it very much, but we think some people might prefer something else.
Summary
Overall, the hostel is nice and you receive good value for your money. There are discounts for students and bigger groups. We would definitely go there if we visit Bratislava again.

Excellent place, great location, clean rooms and helpful owner Juraj is kind and helpful. He keeps this hostel clean and very organized. I got a private room for a price I normally pay for dorm room in other hostel. I will stay here again if I visit BRatislava in the future. — Xuan , China (2011-12-30)

Very friendly, nice home, excellent stay! Juraj is the best host you can wish for! He is always ready to help and he makes sure you'll enjoy you're stay in Bratislava. I felt very at home at his hostel. And Juraj is always ready to supply with the finest beers from Bratislava! You will meet him at the railway station of Bratislava. — Anne-Sofie , The Netherlands (2011-05-24)

Lovely, bunnies and cheap beer and always happy to help Was a little apprehensive at first about following juraj from the train station but it was worth it, he was so nice and the place had everything you needed, he encourages you to talk to other travelers and helps you discover where to go out. i just wanted to hug him by the end of our stay! we went in about august i think. Juraj is lovely and so are his rabbits! — Katie Macnamara , UK (2011-01-25)

Unbeatable value and comfort Having arrived in Bratislava late in the evening after a busy days travel with no accommodation booked we were hoping to ring the hostels advertised at the train station in an attempt to get a double room for the night. Juraj was at the station and tried to get us to come to his hostel with him. Me, being very tired and untrusting was regrettably rude and tried to brush him off. Eventually, having no luck with the other hostels we went with Juraj to his hostel -- and we're so happy that we did! Next day I apologised to Juraj who goes absolutely out of his way to make everyones stay comfortable. He works tirelessly around the place and he has a very calm and trusting nature which really helps to make one feel at home. An excellent homely hostel in a great location in a great little city. Forget about the popular backpacker hostels on the main busy street and give Juraj a try. It's definitely worth it! — Matt and Steph , England (2010-07-24)

very good We really liked the hostel of Juraj, because he gave us a very nice feeling. When we had a question he answered without any problem and when we needed something he did all the possible.
We stayed in three diffrent ho(s)tels in Bratislava, so we can compare. When we should go back, we just go to Juraj without any doubt. — Marc , Belgium (2009-07-17)

Top-notch budget hostel, in great location and with friendly owner I have just stayed twice at Juraj's Hostel in May of 2009, and everything was very much to my liking. Juraj's prices are about the lowest, his rooms are among the nicest, and his location is very convenient to all parts of Bratislava particularly the mian train station. I recommend this accomodation and I know that you will like the owner.

Good Just a note when getting to the hostel from the airport, Bus 61 leaves directly outside the airport and runs late in the evening, and the last stop is the train station which is about ten minutes away from the hostel. Be sure to get some Slovakian small change from the airport (there is a desk there provided for this purpose) to put in the machine next to the bus stop. You cannot buy bus tickets on the bus, and the driver does not talk to those riding the bus. Buy enough tickets for the half-hour ride to the train station. You may want to double them up for your bags as sometimes you need to buy an extra ticket for big bags taking up lots of space. The fine for riding without a valid ticket is high. Stamp the ticket as soon as you get on the bus, and keep stamping a new ticket for every ten minutes on the bus (there is a little clock on the stamping machine). When you arrive at the train station, keep in mind the map on Juraj's website as the directions given on hostelz.com are poor. You might end up going down the first tunnel/underpass you find as I did and get lost. Go past this tunnel and follow the road by the train tracks until you reach the next tunnel under the railroad tracks. Juraj's is directly opposite this tunnel, and there is a little sign high up on the house (number 28). The road can get a little dark and scary if you arrive at night but I didn't have a problem arriving at around 10:30 p.m. on a Monday at full-moon. — nickgonewalkabout , UK/USA (2008-06-17)

Excellent hostel and service We (a married couple) don't normally go to hostels, preferring private accommodation or cheap hotels. We decided to check this place out when Juraj approached us at the train station, it being moderately cheaper for the private double with en-suite compared to other hostel double en-suite rooms in the old town. The place is very clean and the kitchen facilities are great (PC and sat TV all working). Juraj is very helpful, going out of his way to make us feel welcome and recommend what we see and do in Bratislava. He also did our laundry for us -- how's that for service! We highly recommend this place to any traveler, including couples looking for a private room. You also won't have any problems communicating with Juraj as he speaks fluent English. — Flashpacking Aussies , Australia (2008-02-25)

Great! This is one of the cleanest, most well kept hostels I've ever been at. I got a single room for my 500SK which was great! It is a ten- to fifteen-minute walk downtown but it's worth it. A great place in a great town! — Carina , Sweden (2007-11-26)

Very good i decided to try out in juraj's hostel. the hostel is well kept most of the time. it feels like home! juraj was always seen washing bedsheets in the morning!
don't miss the chance to stay in this hostel! there is free internet (one pc) and kitchen where you can cook! you will also get a free map when you arrive. juraj, keep it up! — siew lian , singapore (2007-09-11)

A very special and personal hostel Very clean. The bedroom I stayed in seemed brand new and I was lucky enough to have a room to myself and share a bathroom with a few others. I think the price was very cheap as this accommodation seemed more like hotel quality than hostel. Juraj was probably the best part about the hostel -- Ive never met anyone so dedicated to their hostel. Take time to smell the roses -- they're gorgeous! Perhaps the only drawback is that its about a fifteen-minute walk to the old town. But it seemed that there weren't any decent hostels in the centre anyway. — Maria , Australia (2007-09-11)

Friendly, Clean, Relaxed, Homey I arrived at the train station and was approached by Juraj, he seamed friendly and offered a good price for a place to stay. he took me personally to the hostel and was very friendly, he gave me good advice on the area and on how to get to Krakow. he did everything that he could to please, the beds were made for us and he even loaded and unloaded the dishwasher for us. the beds were comfortable, i was getting a late train and i was allowed to leave my bag at the hostel free of charge until i caught the train. it was good value for money and one of the best i have ever stayed in. there is a free laundry service, underfloor heating, and a fully equipped kitchen. if i am ever in the area again i will be staying there again. — Ben Williams , England (2007-09-07)

A very good choice We're a couple and booked a private room at this hostel. We haven't been disappointed. The hostel is very clean (Juraj don't stop cleaning all day long). There is a garden where you can take the breakfast or a beer till midnight. After this hour you must be quiet, and it was respected when we were here. There's two kitchens and three bathrooms. We never had to wait to take a shower. The station where you can take train to wien or budapest is near the hostel (but you don't hear the trains). The owner is very nice and can help you if you need informations. — kty , france (2007-08-27)

Clean, convenient, good value far from the madding crowd, yet close to train station and city centre. It is a good getaway to rest and relax or, as a stopover to stroll along the cobbled streets of bratislava and view the sights. For my friends and I, we Iove the warm, homey atmosphere and stayed for four nights, longer than we intended to. we rested before we continued traveling. Easy access to Internet and flexible check-out time is a great bonus. Juraj is kind, helpful, and friendly. I highly recommend juraj's hostel. — kit , malaysia (2007-06-18)

We had a good time at this hostel. Hostel has new bathroom and a new and modern, well-equipped kitchen. His runner, Juraj, has helped us in all ways he could -- maps, tips, friendly chats, a lift to the Autobusova Stanica (autobus station). we needed to change money and he did it. We met people from England and Malaysia and had chats with them. Juraj's hostel is a meeting point with a warm atmosphere.
Still thank you a lot, Juraj! Enjoy Slovakia, its towns and landscapes are so beautiful. — Irene and Nuni , italy (2007-05-07)
