Central Backpack King Hostel is an inside secret and one well-worth discovering. Hidden away in an apartment building in a new district, it offers an incredible experience and enhances any stay in Budapest.
The Location
Central Backpackers King keeps a low profile, as it doesn't have any sign posted outside. It's located on two floors of a residential apartment building, and you'll only find the short initials "CBK" on the doorbell outside the building. Fiddle with the bell until the front desk or one of the friendly neighbors let you in. Once you've found the hostel, it's easy sailing. A nearby square holds at least five great bars to sit at while looking at the passersby, and the small university on the same street gives the neighborhood a youthful feel.
Budapest is quite small, so you won't need to worry too much about city transportation. For trips when you will need to access a subway, there's one line (the red) that stops about fifteen minutes from the hostel.
Rooms and Bathrooms
Offering a hodgepodge of room types, the hostel is eclectically decorated. You can find dorm rooms on the common floor with the reception, or private rooms on the more quite second floor. Each floor has three bathrooms and two showers for approximately twenty-four people (main floor) and eighteen people (second floor). They're kept quite clean, and are also supplied with soap and towels. A couple of the bathrooms are quite small, with no counter space, but the shower rooms are quite large, offering plenty of space to change.
Common Spaces
Check in with the reception, talk with the great staff, and you'll quickly find yourself making friends while munching on fresh cherries from someone's backyard tree. The kitchen is stocked with complimentary tea and coffee, and some mints and biscuits are always set out for munchies. Both floors have a large living room with a book exchange, TV, fans, tables, and couches. The living room on the main floor is very social, and guests can typically be found sitting in the room or on the nearby computer.

Homey and Clean A clean place situated slap bang in the middle of everything in pest. — Eoin , Irish (2007-06-25) Its a really hip place. You feel like you have your own place (especially in a big group) and they are central. I even sat in the living room area reading for two hours one night just like it is my own home (though my apartment did not have a living room that big). The location is great, not too far from St. Stephen Cathedral and next to a very famous trendy restaurant "Tom George." It is also walking distance to Chain Bridge. People working at the reception are very friendly. Reception is very very very helpful, friendly, and they know about everything. There is a big living room for people to hang out with and a kitchen which comes in useful. the only downside, dorm is not very soundproof and it is closed to the living room. — xxx (2006-06-02)
