The Hostelz.com Review
The Rainforest Resort in Byron has a great setting - the cabins and dorm blocks are set amongst the trees in the rainforest as the name suggests. There's plenty of room between the cabins so it feels really spacious. There is a track from the resort that crosses a nice creek with lots of wildlife and follows onto the beautiful beach.

The double rooms are a good size and have a TV and fridge along with a en-suite bathroom. But the shared kitchen and lounge are busy and there doesn't seem to be enough pans or cooking rings on the hob to go around, so it can take some time to cook your food.

The resort is about 3.5 km south from from the main part of Byron Bay on Broken Hill Road. That does make it somewhat inconvenient, but there is a free shuttle bus to and from town at regular intervals. The resort is good for travellers with disabilities and the cabins are easily accessible.

Our overall impression of the resort is "shabby chic". It's really laid back and nicely set out but it looks like it could do with looking after a bit more.

Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
1  Did not end up staying! we arrived at the Byron Bay Rainforest resort and was welcomed by the owner who gave us some milk and headed straight to the cabin. set amongst very tall trees the fly screen to the cabin was hanging off the runner and we stepped into a dark and very dirty cabin. The sheets and linen were clean but there were cobwebs and spiders everywhere. The kitchen area consisted of a very small pan, a few odd cups and glasses and a stainless steel drainer. from the website and pictures there this was nothing like what we were given to stay in. The pool was dirty and the spa looked debatable too!! We must say the owner although he seemed surprised to hear we were not staying was ok and offered us our deposit back!  , uk ()
3  Friendly staff and excellent value for the price. Back again after 3 years, and the resort has reassuringly to me, not changed much, even the prices, which are very reasonable given the facilities and amenity of the place. The manager David, intercepted us on arrival and shown us straight to our cabin, before heading back to get us some milk. The spacious cabin was clean and tidy, and the enclosed patio now had a tile floor. The couch is as comfy as ever. Found we didn't need the aircon, as the ceiling fan worked a treat. Before we had a swim, when we dropped into reception before it closed, where friendly owner Murray and his young daughter greeted us enthusiastically, and provided some excellent local knowledge about dining options. The swimming pool is long enough for a laps workout if that's what you want, otherwise is was nice just to float around looking up at the sky through the trees, and the adjoining spa complete with palm frond roof, is totally AB FAB! If you want a full on bubble massage, this spa hits the spot. I'm sure if we'd stayed a few more days, I would have been a fixture at the pool. The resort was full the night we stayed, but even when we saw other guests around, it felt more like a private club, with plenty of room for everyone to do their own thing. A couple of other guests had large dogs with them, but that didn't stop anyone from enjoying themselves. A stroll around the resort just taking in all the little nooks and crannies, trees, and shrubs, plus the birds, is a treat. Even the brush turkeys saunter nonchalantly across the lawns with no regard to four pawed friends of guests. And the lawns aren't manicured to obsession, which just adds to the "rainforest retreat" ambiance of the place. It wasn't enough to stop me getting a good nights' sleep, but occasional traffic noise after dark would impede the sound of the surf and night critters as it passed, while I lay in bed before falling asleep. Otherwise, the resort lived up to its quiet, peaceful location. You could probably find comparable accommodation somewhere in Byron for the price at this time of year if you looked hard enough, but I doubt if it would have anywhere near the same kind of peaceful, laid back atmosphere.  , Australia ()
4  The owners are back in charge now after a babybreak, so the previous "managers" are gone. Murray (owner) and David (manager) are friendly and helpful without being pushy. I found the cabin we stayed in roomy, clean, and tidy, the reverse cycle aircon was as welcome for chilly nifghts as I'm sure it will be for hot summer days! The bathroom was clean and roomy, (thanks to design for wheelchairs I think), the shower hot, and the best absorbent bath towels I've ever come across, not the fluffiest -- but mine sure dried me fast! The "dorm" style accommodation has been converted back to self contained motel style rooms with private bathrooms, and the share facilities are no more, except for a small meeting room for up to fifteen people or so. It was a bit chilly for the swimming pools at this time of year, but they looked inviting for more hardy souls! The resort overall was in good shape, and it was great to just hang around on the sofa in the enclosed verandah, sipping coffee and tea (provided), and catching up on local news, while the brush turkeys roamed around the place.  ()
