It's clean enough just don't take room 2 next to lounge because of noise from guests who can't seem to go to bed at a decent hour. — Gingerwill (2006-07-17)

Very good hostel, very clean, the double room was exactly like a hotel room, with TV, en suite, etc. Good facilities including kitchen, etc. Use the kitchen because the restaurants in town are the most expensive in Ireland. (We thought they were more expensive than Killarney.) — Chook (2005-11-29)

Right on a bustling street in the heart of beatufiul Kenmare, Co. Kerry, Ireland, rests the absolutely incredible Kenmare Lodge Hostel. This facility has been completely refurbished and sports some of the nicest amenities of any of the hostels one will ever stay in. The entrance 'alley' (replete with payphone) opens into a courtyard with outdoor seating adjacent to the incredible dining facilites (with high-backed leather chairs) and professional-quality cooking facilities. The dormatories are located in a second building across the courtyard and are on the first and second floors.
Rooms are rather large, which means that more bunks can be placed in, but the rooms still feel cozy and are furnished with clean beds and awesome oriental-printed sheets (very chic). In the halls of both floors of dormatories, there are two individual bathrooms (per floor) with some of the best shower facilities you'll come across. The water pressure and temperature are both ideal. Carpeted floors and a TV room with a very large wide screen TV may make you feel like you're staying in an upscale guest house, rather than a youth hostel.
The staff is friendly and the atmosphere allows for some great conversation and fraternizing if you're staying in, but if not--Kenmare offers excellent (moderately up-scale) shopping and some brilliant pubs with local music nightly. The town's location on the Kenmare River lends to the quality of the seafood in the area and you definitely don't want to miss Wharton's Fish and Chips, a few buildings down from the hostel.
The facility is open all year round and I would rate it one of the top hostels I've stayed in thus far. Kenmare is a great place to stop whether you're travelling the Ring of Kerry, Cycling the ROK Cycle Route, hiking the Kerry Way, or driving/hiking between Killarney and the Beara Peninsula. Getting to the hostel is easy: it's on the South End of Main Street in Kenmare (number 27), right on the N71 through town. Coming from the Kerry Way or Ring Of Kerry Cycle Route (from Sneem) stay on the street you enter the town on, going on the south side of the small park towards the south. — Patrick , U.S. (studying in U.K., presently) (2005-05-27)

This was a great place to stay, although it's a little hard to find. The map we had didn't actually show this hostel, and none of the locals seemed know there was a second hostel in the town. It was all a little confusing when we arrived, as they were extending the building, no one was answering the doorbell and unless you know the code you can't get in. It had lovely hot showers and a trendy dining room. The staff were great. — Sarah (2005-04-13)
