Description
We welcome traveling students in the USA and internationally to visit the Institute. We provide Youth Hostel services in the Barracks (see descriptions above). Students should have an International Student ID card. The prices are $15 a night. Reservations are recommended if you want to be sure to get a room because space is limited. Call 254-395-4444 or email jparker@glade.net for reservation information. Guests need to provide their own linens or can rent linens from the Hostel for $2.00. Guests must take care of their own meals: a microwave and refrigerator are available.
Local attractions include Fort Parker (a historic restored fort from the 1830's), Fort Parker State Park, Lake Mexia, and the rural sights of beautiful central Texas. Tehuacana is a quaint rural village of about 350 people with a historic cemetery, a grocery store, café, and post office in easy walking distance. Guests need to have calling cards to make long distance calls from the local grocery store. In addition, nearby Wortham, TX plays host to the "Blind" Lemon Jefferson Blues Festival, held annually.

I stayed there at the start of 2005. People running the place are really friendly, as are the other people in the small town. It's great if you'd like to experience staying outside a main center. — Anonymous (2005-04-20) The hostel is very clean and usually empty. It is run by a very nice couple. However, there is a strong Christian code enforced; only married people can share rooms and there is no drinking. Definitely not a party atmosphere.
