Triasico Hostel is located approximately 12 blocks from the bus station. The city is fairly flat so it's an easy walk, but the easiest way to get there is to use a taxi or to phone the hostel as they can often (but not always) collect travellers from the bus station. An advertisement giving directions and phone number for the hostel is located at the bus station, near the Police Booth. Please note that the hostel has changed location recently, so some printed information in circulation giving the address or phone number may not be correct. While the hostel is a bit of a hike from the bus station, it's well located, with an internet cafe and locotorio just around the corner and a large supermarket a few minutes walk away.
The accommodation is comprised of a mix of domitories, most with private bathrooms plus some double rooms. Sleeping areas are located in a different building to the lounge and kitchen, so it's possible to get a good night's sleep here even if people are partying late elsewhere on the premises. The bedrooms are clean and the bunks comfortable. The rooms, however, are not overly large so they do feel cramped when filled to capacity as there's not a great deal of space to put backpacks, etc. Lockers are available in most of the rooms.
The bathrooms are small but adequate, with good showers and hot water which is truly hot (in contrast to a number of other hostels in South America). Sometimes it can take a while for the water in the taps to get hot though (several minutes), so be prepared to wait a little while before jumping under the shower. Towels
and soap are supplied.
The hostel contains a number of common areas, including two sunny courtyards -- one with hammocks, a large lounge-dining area, and a separate sitting area. In the lounge-dining area you'll find plenty of tables and chairs, a TV and DVD, a sound system plus a cut-down table-tennis table, with the opportunity to win free accommodation or beer if you can beat the owner.
The kitchen is well-equipped and clean, however there's only one stove, so if the hostel is busy you might have to wait a little while to cook, or use the microwave. Tea, coffee, and mate are provided, as is breakfast, which consists of coffee (with milk), rolls, and jams.
The hostel is run by the owners and is extremely friendly. The owners and staff will help arrange tours, including providing information on how to see things really cheaply using local transport, which cuts the cost considerably. The owners teach Salsa locally, so impromptu dance classes are a regular occurance, as are barbecues and affordable Spanish and English classes.
The best thing about this hostel however is its atmosphere. The owners and their staff try very hard to create a friendly and welcoming environment with the effect that many people who arrive intending to stay just one night enroute to other places end up staying considerably longer.
