Of character but the basic facilities are not that good the staff here is quite friendly and helpful, i like CHEN JING the best. she 's so nice and told me exactly which bus and metro should i take to the places. and recommended some places to go to. things here are beautiful and very chinese, i found the woodencase very interesting in the room. (i was in a dorm for 4) with some sentences from chairman mao's poem, it mainly means "the wind of autumn get stronger and stronger annually, yellow flowers on the battle ground are with loads of gragrance." i love this case very much. HOWEVER, the internet can't be access when you are in the room, but only in the common room. there's no slipper so better take one with you or your floor will end up with mud and imagine ur naked feet on the freezing bathroom floor. and i was in beijing at the new year's eve, it snowed heavily and the air conditioning was not working, and the heating either (it is very mildly heated u can hardly feel it, to make things worse, the cover is so thin and i think it's a miracle i survived during my stay there. and the temperature was minus 16c. and no slipper, and my shoes got wet. i was wavering under my cover in the morning before i got up. as many people have put it, the bathroom is dirty but i find a good way to solve it. i went to the staff and asked for a mop, they asked me why, and i said my floor is too dirty because of the shoes from the bad weather, and they are too embarrassed to let myself do the cleaning, so i got my room cleaned everyday i was staying there. another problem is the door is so hard to open and close, it make big noise if u come late from outside or the common room where you get your internet access, and it will be evil to wake your roommates up because of the door, and the electrical outlet are 2, and not enough for 4 people living in the room. and the bathroom is too cold to get a shower. there's a kitty in the hot water room, when i went there first to get the hot water i was scared by it. its hair all got up and ready to attacked me i thought. — voyager , china (2010-01-05)

An oasis amongst the bustle of a big city Rooms basic but clean. Facilities good. Courtyard a great place to relax with a drink and socialise with other travelers at the end of a day. Staff friendly. Always helpful. Location good. We stayed in May 2007. — barbara gunn , new zealander (2008-06-23)
Not so great I am surprised by the good reviews this place gets. I found the staff rude and the place quite dirty (a steamed bun and an empty bottle of beer sat in the shower cubicle for three days), the toilets don't flush, and the kitchen never has any of the food it advertises. It's also in a bad location, you need to get a bus then metro to get anywhere. Worst of all though, our friend made a reservation ahead for us, only for it to be lost -- we were offered a dorm instead of the double room, then once we had settled in, we were told after two days that we had to leave as someone else was booked in our room! Other guests were frequently moved between rooms as staff seemed unable to shuffle future bookings between rooms. — Jan , UK (2007-07-27)

This Hostel was great! I stayed in the upper level with my own private bathroom. The staff was very friendly. There were people from all over the world visiting there. Ben, a manager, always gave me helpful suggestions about where to find places and took the time to write the Chinese characters down on paper for the Taxi driver to read. — Joel , U.S.A. With no exaggeration, this was probably one of the nicest places I've stayed. The staff were so friendly, very helpful finding our way around Beijing, and booking a Great Wall Tour. Highly recommended! — Stacey & Mike , canada (2007-04-11)

If you book here you won't be disappointed. It's quite conveniently located, close to cheap eateries, bus, and underground, but really quiet. Real nice if you're coming from Europe, a little jet lagged like i was. No annoying hoovers in the morning like some places. Staff were really good and writing directions in Chinese to give to taxi drivers was never a hassle for them. Hot water twenty-four/seven and clean rooms. Pool table and free internet. Go for it. — Vegemite Sandwich , Australia (2007-04-02)

I have stayed at this hostel twice, having tried two other Beijing hostels previously. It is outstanding. Friendly, helpful, generous staff, comfortable beds in clean rooms, clean showers and toilets. Excellent extra facilities -- clean kitchen and dining area, comfortable lounge with TV and free internet, washing machines that work available. A very pleasant courtyard area for relaxing away from the hustle and bustle outside. Efficient booking service for tours, trains, etc. I highly recommend Lotus Hostel. — Mary (2006-07-21)
